Should I have this 1952 Smith & Wesson K-22 reblued?

It's gorgeous as is, but I'd tighten up the grip screw.

Mine shows more wear than yours, however, I would NOT reblue it. Get yourself another deeply blued specimen, and use the heck out of this one. Unless it's a poor shooter, in which case, send it to me and I'll love it.

That gun looks fine. Leave it alone.

Leave as is. I have never recommended re-bluing unless the gun is heavily pitted or really chewed up.

Looks great just the way it is.
No reblue. Throw those grips away and replace with a set of magnas and a T-Grip like God intended for it to have.

If it were mine I'd have a well respected refinisher re-do it.

Looks good to me as is. I'd attend to any mechanical problems as they arise but I'd leave the finish alone. It adds a touch of class to the gun.

Leave the old gal alone! I don't like smooth grip stocks and would change those, but that's just me. Gun-wise, you've got a keeper with character!

+1 --- the gun, as is, shows good honest use and character. As "redlevel" said, get rid of the smooth grips and find a good used set of diamond magnas and a T-Grip!!

I gonna go against the flow on this one, guys. It's your gun & it depends a lot on what you're gonna do with it, as well as what you've already done to it. It's doubtful that it'll ever be more of a collector than it currently is. Yes, it has some character, but unless that wear and pitting has some emotional significance for you, it's very likely gonna start bugging you at some point. If I had it, I'd seriously consider hard chroming it:

My rationale would be that I've already got a couple K22 safe queens, as well as some others with "character", and I've never seen a hard chromed k22. I think that it could be kinda neat, and that it would preserve the usefulness of this particular gun for another generation, at least. Let the flames begin. -S2

If you plan on keeping it, I don't see the problem with re-blueing. I know I am one that likes all my guns in tip top condition. Don't ask me why.

OK-I'm with Wyatt-reblue, but get a master to do it. Here's a couple by Gene Williams. Simply beautiful. One's a pre-war non-reg magnun and the other is a plain ole 10-5. Both give me great pleasure in their restored state:

Folks around this forum will generally advise against almost any refinish to almost any gun. Supposed to hurt the collector/resale value I guess....and that may be true. However, if you truly plan to keep it, why pass it down to the kids all worn out looking? Get someone who knows how to do a good job and go for it. You might even consider a tougher finish like nickle or hard chrome. I personally like them to look nice....not ragged out.
