should i sell...?

I had a Marlin 336 30-30 and I did sell it. I sold it to help pay for a Henry Big Boy .44 mag. I really like the Big Boy, it's accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. That doesn't change the fact that I could kick myself for selling the 30-30.

The Big Boy is just too pretty to take out in the woods and scratch. With the Marlin I didn't really care all that much. Of course I tried not to scratch it, but I wouldn't pitch a fit if it did get a dent or ding.

As far as not being able to afford to shoot it that much... Well, you should consider getting into reloading if you aren't already. You can load the 30-30 for fairly cheap if you've managed to save the brass you've used. If not, go buy a bulk pack of 500 empty brass and remember the more you shoot the cheaper it gets. Especially because the brass can be reloaded many times.

I say keep it. You'll only regret it in the future when you go reach for that Marlin and it's not there.

Keep it as a backup for blood trailing the animals you sling arrows at with your bow. Besides, one day you might want to pass it down to a young relative who would really treasure it. When in doubt, you're better off not selling it, as others have said, you may regret it in the long run. Your Marlin .30-30 is an excellent weapon that can be used just about anywhere and will never lose it's value.

Huh. I have a Marlin 336 .30-30 that has only been fired twice at the range in ten + years. I've never even considered selling it....

Why keep it if you don't want it/use it? Sell it. It's just a gun and a pretty common one at that. If you change your mind later on, you can always find another one. Marlin made millions of them. I'll bet my LGS has a dozen on the rack right now.

I've got one I bought a few years ago, and I'm thinking I might sell it too. I've taken it out one time and fired less than a box of ammo through it. It's just taking up space in the safe, and gathering dust. I might was well sell it to someone who'll use it.

i own a marlin 336 lever 30-30 ....i like it but i always think about selling it....what im asking is opinions to sell or to keep it. i bought it for bear hunting and it only comes out of safe for that reason. i think its too expensive to shoot for me anyway and i just cant justify keeping it if i only use it a couple times a year. by the way in my state i cant hunt anything other than bear with a rifle ....what do you guys think

You use it, you like it. What's to want to sell?

I don't know what you pay for .30-30 ammo, but in my experience that is some of the least expensive center-fire rifle ammo I've ever purchased.
I just paid $76 for two boxes of .30-06 ammo yesterday, and the last time I looked, you could still buy a box of .30-30 for around $15 - $20.

I say keep it.

I have a Marlin 30-30, not for hunting, but maybe someday if I become the hunted.:(:eek:

I feel inferior now.:o I have looked at them a lot but never bought one. I have no use for one either. Only hunting I did down here was doves and quail. Most of the free places are gone now. N Fl has some decent Whitetails but the little Dear down here an't worth hunting.

Is it the only rifle you own? I would keep it around for other uses such as for coyotes and the like. If you came across a wounded animal that needed dispatching, it will be unwieldy to carry a bow around and its cheaper to shoot a round than damaging an arrow. It would also make a good camp gun considering you'll likely be in bear country. I would be more comfortable, safety wise, with a rifle in my hands then a handgun or bow.
