Should the FBI Know How Many Guns You Own?

I've been accumulating firearms of one kind or another for a long time. I've sold some, I've given some away, and I've bought a few. I don't even know how many I have at this moment. As a matter of fact, I've even forgotten about some of them and occasionally run across one of the forgotten and am surprised I still have it. Guess I need to clean up my closet... Seriously though, in conversations with LEO friends with various agencies, as an honest citizen I do not feel threatened. I worry more about a house fire and the fire department reporting they couldn't, or wouldn't attempt to save the house for all of the ammo going off. What I need is another fire proof safe!

If bho is re-elected & sadly, I believe that is highly likely, I fear that we gun owners may feel the full effect of the 'Patriot' Act. Most LEO at all levels OK but it only takes a few in the right positions to wreak havoc. Suppose ya'll remember Ruby Ridge & the Waco debacle? I'll end with that.

The government of 1930's Germany demanded knowledge of firearms ownership and we all know where that led them. The SS and Gestapo had the lists of firearms and their locations. Here, it will be the FBI and BATFE. Can anyone else see the similarities? They say history repeats itself......

The ploy that will be used by those advocating extension and enlargement of the Patriot Act will be use of the phrase for the "general safety and general good".....we already hear it used.

We just got advised of reinstatement of the Patriot Act by our Congressman here in GA-9. He was only one of thirty that voted against extension of the Act. He is now upset that the President did not sign it in person, but granted a staffer use of the "auto-pen" to sign a bill into law. He is the first sitting President to ever do so. Sorta scary, isn't it? What next? The Constitution says that a President sign bills into law in the presence of witnesses. Just how does an "auto-pen" fill those guidelines?

I would be happiest if government didn't know if or much arms I have.
But I would be very distressed if the sheriff I voted for came to take my guns. What would one do then?

Problem is that with one "call in", you've been identified as a "gun owner." Without much effort, anyone who wants to can "create" a picture of who they want you to be, depending on "exigent circumstance(s)." That is the real danger. Joe

We shouldn't spend too much time worrying about it...but...in case it ever happens, we should be willing...

If we learn nothing else from the dust up in Libya, it should be that pop-guns aren't what is guaranteed by the 2nd, or what we really need.

Small arms are used to secure the perimeter for the crew served stuff.

The FBI doesn't know how many guns I have. I'm not sure that I do. But after the in-state person to person sales and purchases, how would they know?
me and all my good friends got together and had a huge garage sale....sold all our weapons. No reciepts just sold them ..... all gone.....sorry

Excellent question

If the ATF knows how many guns you own, I'm pretty sure it won't be hard for the FBI to know too.

The problem is, when does an avid collector become an "arsenal holder"? I thought I had a lot of guns, mostly .38 and .357 revolvers though.......and I have met guys who make what I've got seem like a starter set.....if a guy has hundreds of M1 Garands and K98 Mausers, is he gonna get labeled as having a "cache"? This is my concern......that some law is gonna pass and not let people collect anymore, and the govt. will say how many guns you can own.

At what point is it not a collection but an arsenal? How much ammo are you allowed to have on hand? And who are they to decide, how many guns and how much ammo you can have???

I became an avid shooter and collector after my service in the Army. It has been my passion for more than thirty five years.

Forget about the guns and fix the budget!

Brief answer... "No." Remember, "No," is a complete sentence. In this case it says everything anyone need say regarding the fbi given that the fbi can not be trusted to act except as a tool and weapon of the current regime in washington.

To me that is the heart of the discussion! I do not believe the FBI cares what I do or don't own at this time. To me the danger comes if this or a future administration, for whatever reason, wants the information. Whether it is the FBI, BATFE, or a flunky in the justice department the information can be pulled together

government need to know

These bureaucrats don't need to know anything about our weapons. Our being armed is what they fear and just as hitler removed firearms to control the germans , so too will barack. If you give up your weapons , you will end up as they did.

Should the FBI

If you have not already, google "Walter Mitty's 2ed Ammendment
Because we are assured the courts will be fair and impartial we
as Americans are always on the defensive as far as these things go, and we will continue to lose, until there is nothing left to lose.

The FBI, ATF and the US Military are sworn up uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, not any person. I think a good many of them take that to heart including the higher ranking members. Of course we won't know until the time comes how they would react. I'm sure it's on the back burner of the left waiting for what they feel is the right time. I really don't think they will get alot of coperation from the agencies in question.

Amendments do not bestow Constitutional rights on we undeserving peons. Our gun rights predate the Constitution and even the Colonies. The amendment "protecting" our fragile right does nothing of the sort. The right to protect oneself is given by the Creator to all human beings. It is irrevocable and the amendment itself misunderstood. A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state... That free State is each individual State we find ourselves living in. My free State is Tennessee, which is yours? Our status as free States is guaranteed by the second amendment. Do you think that has been compromised by the 14th amendment? At any rate, when they come for your guns, do not give them up. They do not have the authority to take them no matter what Congress or the Army or anyone says, no one has that authority. The exercise of power must be authorized by the Constitution and legally obtained, able to withstand scrutiny in a Constitutional Convention or Court.

:DI've got a few guns. Not near as many as most people on this forum, I'm sure, but not a single one is registered to me.:D

FBI ?

let's see....there are 306 million people living in the US as of the 2010 census, that equates to about 130 million households. there are 13,400 FBI agents as of 12/31/10. if my math is correct that is 9700 households per agent. there are over 70 million handguns in the US and no one really knows how many shotguns, rifles etc....lets say another 70 million
that is 10,400+ guns per agent.

if you know anything about the FBI you should know it is a gun culture, so when the future despot that some fear directs the FBI to go out and collect 140 million guns they will probably go slowly and reluctantly.

unless you are a criminal or terrorist the FBI doesn't care about your handguns. nor does your President, your Senators or your Congressman. disarming the US would be illegal and impossible.

I have owned guns for 55 years. I live in what some would call a very liberal/progressive state, with a long history of Democratic governance. we have some of the most relaxed gun laws in the US. I have never had the slightest concern that my gun rights are at risk. to purchase a handgun I wait 5days(Brady Bill)....if I don't like waiting 5 days I get a CWP allowing me to get my handgun the same day.

there are plently of things to be concerned about, I just don't feel this is one of them.

me and all my good friends got together and had a huge garage sale....sold all our weapons. No reciepts just sold them ..... all gone.....sorry

Exactly...No need to be all paranoid now. I certainly would not want to shoot at any law enforcement officers who show up to confiscate my guns, but I also dont see myself handing over a single piece of my personal property just because of some new ban. Especially in light of the fact that the law would likely expire or be reversed (Assault weapons ban, among others)!

Not sure how I could remain a law abiding citizen if the worst case scenario were to happen. Guess I couldnt! It would be strange to be an outlaw (and not be a banker or politician), but maybe I would finally find my "calling". That sounds kinda crazy, eh!?
