Show 'em if you got 'em - Heiser Leather Products

Here is another older Heiser holster of mine. It is a Heiser Model 175 Flap Holster. It also has the triple "H" rivets and the older bar and oval maker trademark. The holster is made for a medium framed revolver with fixed sights. It was probably made around 1915-1920. I like the floral carving very much.

Onomea, that 1938 Woodsman & holster is marvelous. Beautiful combination of handgun & holster.

I've posted my contribution previously but I think it's worth another airing.

A few years ago I decided I really needed a registered magnum and was lucky enough to win REG 5388 at auction.

When I finally took delivery of it here in Melbourne I showed it to a close friend who suggested he had a holster that I needed more than he did. He was right.

Today's collectors may call them that, but Heiser did not. This is 1923 from catalog No. 20:

It is from Heiser catalogs that we get the closest nomenclature we can for many 'old west' holsters such as the Mexican Loop; because that's what Heiser called it. But Heiser was not a gunleather maker until the early 20th century so who knows what the cowboys really called them then.

I believe Larry was referring to the stamped image on the round loop.
From my Heiser catalog:
"No. 407 - Smooth finish with bull head...............$3.00."

MAB93, thats a wonderful combination. To me, that the Heiser is marked Abercrombie & Fitch, the legendary sporting goods store, makes it even more special.

Apologies for the lousy photo-this is a Heiser shotgun shell bag. It holds 150 shells which should make for a very full day of shooting and a very sore shoulder.

Regards,

Holy mackerel John, are you sure that is not a saddlebag, because if it were mine, it would definitely take a horse to carry it while holding 6 boxes of 12 gauge shot shells!:D:rolleyes: I was going to say that it would be awesome if it were floral carved, but since it is a shoulder carry item, it might look like a pocketbook. I have seen the shotgun shell box, like above, before. Never seen a shotgun shell bag by Heiser. I have one that you wear on your belt, and dump a box of shells into it, to make for easier loading on the dove field. It is made by a modern company though.

Well, my only Heiser isn't pretty, but it came into my family before I did. My dad bought a Registered Magnum on Guam in 1946 and the holster came with the gun. When I was young and on our farm, we would periodically take a drive into town, and this combo always was stowed under the driver's seat. My dad, a 30-year Navy lifer, would look at me and say "Stand by to repel boarders!" and smile.

I think holsters for small guns can be really cool, just because it seems kinda odd to carry guns this small on your hip. A flap holster for a gun this small is crazy isn't it?:)

Here is an ugly little Heiser IWB that I have grown to love. I wear a back brace and an IWB Holter is out of the question for me, so I pocket carry this with a 2" M&P. I can either stuff it all the way in my pocket for complete concealment or pull it up and hang the flap over the outside of my pocket.

Bruce, I don't think I've ever seen one like that even in a catalog. I think it's cool that it is rawhide wrapped. I need to look harder next time I have one out.

I bought this pocket holster several years ago at an antique store on the Oregon coast, not knowing what it fit. I was happy to discover that it fit my S&W 38 D.A. with 3 1/4" barrel.

Here's another Heiser made for the Savage auto, the model number 181 dates the holster as pre 1919 or so.

Regards,

Love, love, love those triple "H" rivets. I don't know why something so small excites me so much to see on a holster. I guess it's because I associate that with 100 years old. Interesting seeing the newer maker's mark with those rivets, but we know it happens.

When I got this holster years ago, I had never seen a Heiser floral carved swivel flap holster before. It is definitely the largest holster in my collection. There was plenty of space for the wonderful Heiser carvers to do their work, and as usual they did a superb job. It is a Heiser Model 738 and fits a Colt Officers Model with 6 1/2 inch barrel. It has the old Heiser trademark on it. It is chamois lined. It has the leg tiedown to keep it close to the body while being able to swivel when the wearer is seated.

Many times, Heiser does something to their holsters that we all like. They will etch on them what gun they were made for. This one is definitely marked "OM" and appears to have a "6 1/2" under that. So it is made for a Colt Officers Model revolver with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. Doing just a little research, I know they are a fairly old revolver which would fall in line with this being an older holster. I put the dollar bills in the picture just so you could see how large this holster is. From the top of the swivel to the bottom of the holster is just over 17 inches.
