Show off your M & P revolvers (pre-10's)

Nobody can claim to be a collector of S&W revolvers unless there's an M&P in the group. Here's my 5" pre-10, one that can't really be called an M&P because it's neither "M" nor "P". The fact is, it's "SQ" - Safe Queen! It's basically new in the box.

This one followed me home today. Best I can tell, it's somewhere between 1920 and 1922. Can anyone narrow that down? The serial number is 303xxx.

photoman, I have 2996xx, that was shipped from Smith in June of 1919 according to Roy Jinks. At the rate these were being made, you could be 1919 also. Bob

Here is my 2 inch from 1947.

I sort of like any snubnose .38 on the K frame, but I have a particular affection for the postwar long-action specimens. Something about the round top front sight and hammer profile really say "classic" to me. My 1947 snub is way back there in post 29 on this thread.

M&P

Steve here... found this late 40's i think.. 5 screw(serial # C 234xx) in the factory gold box at my local Cabelas the other day. Has some poor storage rust and the wrong grips, but it WAS unfired, til today

Here are some pics of mine with and w/o flash- I bought it and quite a few other really nice guns from a widow who was parting with her husband's collection in 2009. I haven't got around to sending off for its history, so I'm not sure when she was built- serial# is 252XXX.

My New "Old" Pre-Model 10

After looking at the previous guns, I know this ain't so pretty. But, here it is.

Looks better in person. Didn't have any indirect light; had to use the flash. And the danged flash shows every bit of character.

Yep, at some point in the past, someone bobbed the hammer. Previous owner said the original grips had been sanded down when he got it and he lost them. Other than that, it's very nice. Doesn't appear to have been re-blued. Slight patina on the backstrap. Some holster wear on the high points. Bore is clean and lockup is tight.

This is going to be a shooter and worked into my carry rotation after I push some rounds downrange. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can get some period diamond grips?

I really like Mr. Wilson's comments. That being said, hear is my favorite M&P (pre-10), mostly because it is a birth year gun that happens to be a nice old .38 special.

Via the 3rd Edition of the SC of S&W, the serial numbers C1-C223998 are given dates of manufacture as being 1948-1953.
