Was listening to Marty Robins song today called Mr, Shorty. He sings about a Short Barreled Batt 44. I think I found it, or could have been it.

Mine is a 4.25" barreled 2nd model American. The chamber has been reamed to accept a short 44-40. The action works, if you cock it slowly so the cylinder stop catches. The spring for the barrel latch is gone too.

Guess I need to load some shells for it to see if it spouts 17" of flame like Mr Shorty's.

Does anyone else think they have Mr Shorty's gun?

Beautiful Gun B. Mower. Never knew they made 5 1/2" barreled Americans.

Here’s my only short barrel 44. It’s a heavily worn 44 Double Action New Frontier 44-40 with a 4” barrel. Serial 1981

My only one, which is a DA .44 First Model, SN 26813 with unknown bone (or tusk) grips. Wish I knew what year it is from, but I'm hazarding a wild guess of late 1880's?
