I too just became a life member. I was doing the 1 or 2 year memberships to see what goodies (knifes or is it knives ?) they had for enticement. We all need to support the NRA, although we may not agree 101% with them.

Sometimes people get it in their head that they don't want to be an NRA member because 1) "they send too many fund-raising mailers", or 2) "they backed Harry Reid (or whoever) and he's an idiot." I always tell them that the only reason any of us can still own a gun is because of the NRA fighting for our rights. Even if they still don't wanna be a member, I suggest making a small 10 or 20 dollar donation to help fund the current struggle against the anti-gunners. It's easy-- just go to the NRA-ILA website & click a couple buttons. I donated once or twice during the presidential campaign, then a couple times again more recently since the current anti-gun stuff started.
FWIW I've been a life member since the late 1980's.

I'm just an annual member since the early 80s BUT I gave 11 gift memberships this year. I figured the NRA needed names as well as money. When the operator takes your information they ask is you would give a gift membership to an active duty soldier .... my eyes actually welled up and I said "sure, give me two". The operator told me they have another publication for the military that has articles of particular interest to them. He also said they are on a waiting list for memberships. If this inspired anybody please check back in with your story.

Did it; thanks for the reminder. Was not an NRA member when I first joined the forum but recently purchased Life Membership. The NRA is the nation's premier civil rights organization and every believer in the right to bear arms should be a member.
