SHRIMP - I HAVE BEEN SPOILED! - updated 02/12/25

There's a little island off the coast of Belize called Caye Caulker that takes about an hour to walk from one side to the other. There are no concrete or paved roads on the island it is all hard packed sand and the taxis are golf carts. There are nice hotels and condos but don't ask me how they get built because I never saw a car or truck. The snorkeling and scuba are best I've ever experienced and all sea food is fresh caught daily by locals. Every few hundred yards on beach there will be a large charcoal grill area with fresh caught lobster from that morning and you could get a big lobster, with rice and mixed vegetables for 8 bucks. That was about 6 years ago and I ate a LOT of lobster while I was there.

used to go shrimping a lot it was either really good or sometimes slow at the bridge depending on the weather , moon and out going tide. lots of work cleaning them and sorting but very rewarding. haven't been shrimping in a while. we do buy fresh Key West pink shrimp.

In Montana, the closest thing I get to fresh seafood is to pull a trout out of the ice, prep it and set it on a small grill.

Love the SC and Georgia fresh caught shrimp. Spend two weeks a year in Charleston SC area and have shrimp multiple days. Fresh steamed with Old Bay seasoning. If travelling I-95 through Ga. stop at B&J Seafood Restaurant in Darien. A small place a couple of miles off the interstate. See a lot of out of state cars there. Their fried local jumbo shrimp dinner is about $15 and enough for two people. Local veggies also. Good oysters also. If in St Augustine, Florida you have to visit O’Steens. Have been in business for over 60 years. Best fried shrimp you will ever eat. Get there early for dinner.

Bon Apetit!

Tonite we made some fresh caught Pink Gulf Shrimp on the BBQ wrapped in bacon. A little Sticky Rice and a few veggies and it made for a very taste dinner. Oh- made some spicy Teriyaki Sauce too. First time I've done that on a BBQ grill but it came out well.

Over the last two years I have expanded my pallet and got hooked on some food that I never realized made much of a difference. Now I can not go backwards!

I was always a Shrimp lover and usually enjoyed it. Then we went to a friend's BBQ down the street and I ate some fresh caught Pink Gulf Shrimp caught in the wild. It was so much better I asked the host exactly what it was and where she bought it. From that evening on, I can no longer eat farm raised frozen shrimp! When we get Chinese take-out or even in the restaurant, I no longer order shrimp dishes because it doesn't peak my taste buds any longer. I have been spoiled!!

If you are a shrimp lover you owe it to yourself to try some. It is a completely different experience - at least to us.

If you want to save money - do not try it! :D

BTW, they usually have it in Costco and sometimes in Whole Foods.

Try the shrimp boat dock in Delcambre. A lot closer than Costco.

I am getting gout just reading this post,,,,

Exactly what happened to me this Christmas, right after the oyster stew. The shrimp and lobster got the barbara walters face suck treatment and into the freezer. Had some prednisone instead.

Me to San Antonio Realtor Lady - why would you name your Grocery Stores HEB?
‘You might if your last name was Butt!’
I’ve had fantastic Shrimp all around the Gulf, all the way to Mexico!
