Sick and tired of the elitist snobbery

You gotta be kiddin' me!!! Why the heck do you think there are so many holster styles, shapes, configurations, colors, and materials out there???

Simple....because one size don't fit all!!! Sheesh! Gimme a break!

Just so we're all on the same page as to what the OP is referring to, here's a picture of what constitutes a "slim athletic build."

Now, please excuse me while I slip into my designer Wrangler jeans, my scuffed up hand-stitched Tony Lama work boots, and my sweat-stained custom-made 10x beaver Stetson, grab my hand-crafted manure fork and go outside and shovel out the corrals.

Manure fork ! Manure fork, why my goodness, that what this thread has needed all along......

Hard to beat the feel of a good manure fork in your hands; in a well used horse stall, with that pleasing ammonia smell so strong it's watering your eyes down to the quick.

I too dumpster dive at real LGS'. Sometimes I buy a holster and look for the pistol I don't yet own that will fit it. I have a box full of holsters, rifle sling, grips and other stuff elitist snobs just gave away.

I do not have a 4" M-10 or I might be interested. But I am not of the slim athletic build. I am of the large athletic build.

When I was 13 my paternal Grandfather passed. The grandsons were to be pallbearers. Dad took me to get my first suit that didn't come from the Sears catalog. Dad taught me something that day. Try it on before you buy it. This alone has saved me many wrong purchases like shoes, clothes, LE Sam Browne, hats and assorted other items.

Happy trails going forward.

I did not know I was so snottish..........

Jest cause I sport a hand-tooled rig, with silversmith'd gold and silver buckles.
Btw, I do have the matching cuff links to boot.

And carry a custom S&W RM....Chambered in the all time great 44 Special.

And all this time, I thought I was jest a hay-seed cowboy. Who Knew? :D

Do you dress to the right or left?

It does have a serious impact on your "swing through"......

of your "Wood..ward" ...... of course...........................

what did you think I meant?????

You are a noted Duck hunter around here!!!

:D

Always dress right. Didn't think I knew what that meant now did you????? :D

Snobbery

BTW, Wal-mart usually carries an "exquisite" selection of Uncle Mikes nylon "rigs". I'm proud to say I own several :D:D

Some of the dilemmas you fellows find yourselves in, truly make me guffaw with mirth.
Let me relate some real-world problems I just encountered.

My intentions to take 30 or so close friends on a little sea jaunt on my newly acquired little boat, you fellows may know of her, named: The Rising Sun. (Feel free to goggle her if you wish, but please don't zoom too close to the fore castle, as the ivory inlaid mahogany is not yet finished.)

the incompetent allowed us to go into a rain shower, my ascot no doubt has several drops of wetness, and oh dear but I do so hate a soggy ascot.

Hold on, this is only the surface of my distress. My captains cap is now ruined,at least six drops of rain, and no less for my yachting blazer which is a mess;

So the trip for today is off.

I will now have to retire to my summer home and have Emmanuella give me another deep-muscle message just to try to lift my spirits a bit. I hardly ever require three in one day; but today's ordeal has just set me back.

Was that going to be........ a 3 hour tour.......?????

:D

I think all or most of the replies are right on. But I also think that what 336A is talking about is the fact that there are people who wouldn't use a holster if it isn't made of leather. There are others who like himself have found that plastic/synthetic works best for themselves. I admit that I don't like synthetics very well and like most shooters who have been at it for close to 50 years, I have quite an assortment of holsters that I either don't have the gun for anymore or I found they didn't work as well as I thought they might. About a year ago I ordered a pancake design from a fairly well known maker for my 629-1 3". It didn't work for me worth damn because the gun sits too high and falls away from me. But I didn't realize it was going to do that due to it's design. I've used pancakes before and they worked OK for lightweight semi-auto's but a revolver is a horse or a different kind with a very short barrel. Anyway, I didn't blame anyone else for my folly. If liking leather over synthetics is elitist then maybe I am. But as has been said, if someone asks for my opinion I tell them what....I...think. I don't tell them which is better for them, only what I personally like and works for me. If someone takes my advise and then finds out they don't like what they ended up with....sorry. But maybe the person asking should have tried some of the stuff he finds people using before he bought anything.

I read this as most people missed the point of the OP and got their hackles up for any of a number of reasons.

Jagger said it in a song, "he can't be a man because he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me." I used to see far too much of that in the sporty car world, I see it the gun world as well.

All too often we hear, "If your holster isn't made of unicorn foreskins, you're wasting your money." If all you can afford is a nylon holster from Walmart and it works for you, go for it. If you are happy with your Rossi .38, great.

The OP wasn't muttering about big boxes of holsters or grips or hearing protectors that some of us accumulate. It was about tendency for many in a specialized community to denigrate lower cost options for gear.

At least that's how I read it. YMMV.
