If anyone has a Super Target and has been able to remove the grips, I'd like to know how he did it.

I tried the old trick of backing out the retaining screw and giving it a slight rap. Doesn't work.

There's only one screw. The silver studs are just locating buttons.

I tried smacking a block of wood against the mag well. Won't budge.

Maybe a rotating lever inside the grip pushing against each side right between the two studs might work. Haven't made such a tool yet.

SIG makes a grip removal tool like you describe to remove their one piece E2 grips from the P226. It has two opposing tabs on a rod. You slide the rod up into the mag well and then twist to push the grip halves away from the frame. The tool is made of some sort of plastic and is meant to push on the plastic grips, which will flex. I don't know if it will work or on wood grips, they may be too rigid. But google SIG E2 grip kit and you will see the idea.

Looks like SIG beat me to my rotary lever invention.

Thought about using my thin putty knife but decided against it. Instead, I took a tongue depressor and sanded a sharp wedge on the end of it. Didn't work. My hammer just split the depressor.

I'll try the shooting suggestion before I make my removal tool.

Well, I need a dope slap for this grip screw business. Using a magnifying glass and bright light on those four "studs", I discovered the secret. They're screws not studs! A No. 10 Torx fits perfectly.

The screws came right out and the new dark walnut grips are on. Much more "manly" than the blonde grips.

The SIG target grips that came with mine got replaced with the more conventional version of Nill grips. Original grips were just too bulky for my hand.
Mine also came with a very narrow front sight blade and correspondingly narrow rear sight notch. These were replaced with conventionally dimensioned sight picture replacements and are much easier to use.
Having thus "corrected" these items more to my personal preferences, I can only report that the gun shoots like a dream and is fully the equal of all but the most expensive of my 1911 target grade guns.
