SIG P220 found its way here

I have been looking for a third generation compact 45, but took a detour.
The "trading post" for my local gun club had this posted "Sig 220 German Manufacture. 6 magazines, original case and paperwork. Sig 22lr conversion with 5 magazines. Will not separate items. $900"

Well, it is in God's caliber. It has a two part steel slide over an aluminum frame. (thanks Bam Bam and Baxter for the correction on the slide)

It is in nice shape, with some high edge wear, shot but well cared for; the 22 conversion looks pristine. The owner was the original buyer and takes very good care of his stuff. There was also a spare pair of grips. The pistol has the SIG thin grips mounted for more of a 1911 feel, the originals came along in the Sig wrapper from the new ones.

I passed up on a 9mm German Police SIG at Gander Mountain for under $400 back in 2010 and have regretted it ever since. This should cure that.

Mine is a "W. German" gun from before the wall fell.

Mine will shoot cloverleafs at 50'

I have .22 conversions for my Browning HP and Beretta 92 ..... fun for at the range!


Edit: don't believe any of the W. or Germany guns had stainless slides....folded blue steel slides over the "breech block". Later guns like my Earnest Langdon edition has a solid stainless slide ........ and frame!

Those are awesome pistols. While I'm a 1911 guy I do love me some Sigs...my P220 and P226 Elites...

I'm a fan.

I only carried the gun and 1 mag, but in order to get through a qual amongst all the Glock shooters I had to hang magazines on myself like a bandito.

It kept getting grandfathered in and I was able to carry the same pistol for 25 years.

Op - I concur with BamBam - you don't have a stainless slide. Your is, as he stated, a folded steel slide over a breech block as evidenced by the dual inner and outer roll pins. Same as the duty P226 we carried for duty and what I went to armorers school for. The later stainless slides had a solid pin.

Sigp220.45, I really like the way yours looks! And I thought I had enough mags for this one, but after seeing your photo I am rethinking that. My five eight rounders and one ten rounder do handle a full 50 round box, but more is better.

The P220 is what opened the Sig door for me. Back in the 80's a guy let me fire his P220. It was one with the heel magazine release. I was hooked. I bought a P220 in .45 ACP and later a P225. I swapped the P225 for a P228 9mm. In retrospect, I should have kept the P225 and added the P228, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Neither the P220 or P228 have ever hiccupped. They just work and their accuracy is stellar. They are emblematic of Sig Sauer in my opinion.

Over time I added other Sigs to the harem and they've all (except one) been stellar performers. The outcast is a Sig 1911 in 38 Super. It gave me untold feeding fits. Turned out it prefers .38 Super Comp brass. When quit feeding it standard .38 Super brass it was happy. Tuning the extractor would probably solve that issue. I haven't messed with the extractor since it's OK now. It's a bit of an oddity. As far as I can tell, they haven't chambered their 1911s in .38 Super for a while now.

Nice find, Heinz! If I were to come across that deal, I'd have jumped on it too!
