Guys after a lot of months and experimentation I finally have my personal defense shotgun and main fighting handgun setup:

The shotgun is my trusty Remington 870 Police. It wears a Surefire DSF forend (awesome BTW), Magpul reduced LOP stock and sling, night sights, Scattergun Technolgies +1 mag tube extension, and a Vang Comp sidesaddle. Currently loaded with Federal 000 tactical buckshot.

The pistol is a SIG-Sauer P220R .45 ACP that has factory night sights and I've added a Streamlight TLR-1HL weapons light to. Just got in the Safariland holster for it today, and the belt also carries a spare tourniquet (got used to having one handy in Afghanistan), Dave Lauck quad duty magazine pouch, Surefire G2X backup light and carrier, and Safariland shotshell carrier.

This covers my home defense needs (as far as equipment) and I just got back from a deployment and am in the process of getting my CCW in my new state of residence, so a carry pistol will eventually find its way into the "armory".

I am also interested in getting a Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle for improved standoff defensive capabilities when in the desert or in general. I have a whole mess of .308/7.62 NATO left over from my PTR-91 (since sold) and have no rifle for it.

Just sharing, gang, and comments or recommendations welcome. Take care!

-Jay

I'd guess what you can't do with those two you'll not be likely to ever have to deal with, but I can't argue against having a smaller handgun - and a rifle. If you want to stick with .45 caliber, how about a Shield .45? I don't really care for the Ruger "Scout" rifle all that much. For my own purposes, I have a little Remington Model 7 in .308 with composite stock. It's MUCH handier than the Ruger, and considerably more lightweight, too. JMHO. :)

Gracias.

Where are you guys going to wear that gear? One of you lives in the middle of a big city. Don't know about the other, who says he now lives in a new state, maybe not in Nevada.

I guess it might be okay for home defense in case of a riot. ??

It would also be useful for carrying in a camper in case of a gang or a rogue bear. Argentina has no large bears, but a cougar is possible, I guess.

Overall, this setup seems rather dramatic and likely to cause cop trouble.

En Argentina no hay osos,si hay pumas y jabalies. A la Remington 870 la compré porque me gusta el arma, para la caza del jabali en zonas boscosas y para disparar en el club de tiro y como tiene 2 cañones el de 28" con full choke para cazar patos.

It's 3 AM and someone just kicked in your door. Coming from a deep sleep what do you have within arms length? That is your Home Defense firearm.

Suggestion, lose the sling on that 870, it is too likely to get snagged on a chair or chest. Also loose the shell carrier because that too can be a snag hazard and it can interfere with aiming if you have to get "skinny" and hug a wall. Also lose the under barrel light, a 40 watt LED bulb draws near zero watts so have a couple of 40 watt lights on 24/7 in your common areas. As a result you'll be shooting out of a dark hole into a well lit target, advantage 100% to the Defender. I would also suggest replacing your 00 Buck with either # 1 or # 3 buckshot. By increasing the number of pellets in your opponent you increase the rate of blood loss and that opponent dropping sooner.

Nice setup. The TLR-1HL...(high lumen) is a weapon in and of itself with the 800 lumen output. I've got one on my Mini 30. Blinding!!!

Carry the Sig 220 at work. You are well armed.

Klyde

He can't carry the P-220 at work! The Air Force won't allow private firearms on duty. That's why I thought the outfit is overkill. If they allowed Security Forces, Pararescuemen, etc. to arm themselves, it'd be a sound rig, although I'd sub a M-16 for the shotgun under most circumstances. The M-9 Beretta is probably the only pistol issued, other than SIG M-11 (P-228) to
OSI agents.

I'd be a little leery to wear that belt, too. I'd probably lay it aside before the cavalry arrived. Massad Ayoob used to advocate keeping this type of belt handy - and a raid jacket, too, if I recall correctly. I don't know if he is still of that opinion. In any case, I thought his post was more about his guns than the belt, and his mention of the Ruger particularly interested me, since I have no opportunity for desert rambling - but if I did, the Ruger would not be on my list of fun things to carry! JMHO. ;)
