Sig Sauer Wins US Pistol contract

Sig P320 is a big improvement over a Beretta, but I thought the Glock 17 or 19 would get the nod.

Didn't expect that. Thought Glock was a shoe in.

Shows what I know.

I love my Sig P320 Carry

I had two Sig P250's, full size and compact both in 9mm. I really liked them. Great triggers, easy to take down, accurate and just felt great in my hand. Even bought extra mags and they ain't cheap.
After years of trying to get my old neighbor to get a gun, he call's me up and ask's what to get. (I moved out of Chicago)
Told him a Sig 250. Simple, dependable and a revolver type trigger. Long and smooth.
I sent him the full size since I got a great deal on it.
Now his daughter has the compact.
Her's was a birthday gift after she got her FOID card.
I do really like Sig's.
Just thought Glock was the next U.S. military sidearm.

Will it be a 9mm? I know they were kicking around the idea of a .40 cal.

Is it only for the Army? What about the other services?

The 320 is a great gun. It's too bulky for carry. I tried carrying it IWB and it was just plain uncomfortable. I am glad they won the contract. It is a great duty gun.

Just speculation, but one of the main considerations is accuracy, and I bet the Sig out-performed the Glock in that category.

It will be the standard 9mm NATO. Here are the numbers I got from a friend who (usually) has good first-hand info: (no guarantees ;))

"The award of the XM17 contract ends the 25-year service life of the M9 pistol, which is based on the Beretta 92FS. The contract has the Army buying as many as 280,000 full size pistols, plus approximately 7,000 sub-compact models. The contract also covers the purchase of another 212,000 pistols by other military services."

Thanks. This is the post we needed here. I'll have to look up what a P-320 looks like. Is it some polymer-framed thing with a ducktail grip tang?

While I really love my Glock, this appears to be a decent choice. The older Sigs never really fit my hands. I'm not so enthusiastic about the short barrel craze (my Glock has a six-inch and length DOES matter!), but that appears to be the flavor of the day. I think there will be less accidents with this pistol. I'm looking forward to hearing more.
