Sight adjustment tool

Did S&W only ship the sight adjustment tool / screwdriver with those revolvers that had adjustable sights?

The reason I ask is that I have a number of revolvers without adjustable sights from the 60s and 70s in their original boxes that came to me with the tool and I was curious if this was done at the factory or added later.

The SAT was included only with guns with adjustable sights as far as I know. I have unopened tools packages without the SAT for models like the 58.

Hello aviator, not an uncommon occurrence. I have experienced this both ways. With new revolvers with target sights. Some had the SAT and some didnt. I mean new right off the UPS truck. The only thing I can chalk it up to, is simply the packing table just ran out of the the correct tool kit.
