I recently bought a 4 1/2" M&P 45. So far I've put 400 rounds through it and it it a superb pistol. But, I need a better set of sights but not necessarily night sights. What do you recommend for all around shooting?

I would look at warren tactical. I personally like the blacked out rears and the nice front dot to capture the eye focus. I have their two dot night sights and really like them (but you don't have to do night sights if your not interested in that)

I have had great performance out of Novak's on my 1911s ( but then Wayne built out two of them, so no surprise) and have had them on a couple of others too.

I like the Heinie Straight 8's on some Glocks, you might look at them.

Final chapter, I have two .45 M&Ps and have replaced both rear sights with the 10-8 Performance "U" slot and the factory front with the dot blacked out. Sight picture is easy to pick up and the sights are rugged as heck and you could easily rack the slide on your belt etc. if you needed to manipulate it one-handed in an emergency.

Good luck on you choices and enjoy the M&P!

I was using the stock fronts with 10-8 rears, too - I left my dots alone, it worked well for years.

As my eyesight has deteriorated I've started moving to higher viz sights for my defensive guns; I've found XS Big Dots work well for me on my Shields, but the Ameriglo SW-501s I put on my 45c are great for all around nightsights. Big orange front with a single dot rear like Heinie Straight-Eights, and the rear is a nice, wide U for lots of light around the front post.

If you are looking for a deal on night sights, there have been some good deals on Truglo out there. I typically use trijicon, but have been leaning towards the Truglo lately. For some reason, I've been through two Trijicon front sights on my 9C. Just swapped it out for a Truglo. The night sights can be had for as low as $50. If you want the combo fiber and night sights, they can be had for a little more. My bedside 45C still has the trijicons, because I'm not swapping them out for the sake of doing so. My field 45C has the Truglo w/ fiber and tritium. The fiber shows up good in the woods during daylight and low light conditions. When it gets too dark for just fiber, the tritium kicks in, keeps the fiber glowing.

Thanks guys. I've decided to go with the Trijicon HDs.

Great choice ! I have them on several pistols and really like 'em.
