I was wondering if there were either Smith or aftermarket sights available for the gen 3 auto's. I was looking at one for my son and want to know if it's possible to get taller or shorter front sights in the even the pistol is hitting high or low. What about replacing the rear sight with an adjustable sight (windage and elevation). Also, has anyone here installed a set of the Hogue wood grips on one. How well do they fit and how do you like 'em. they're not cheap but not too badly priced either. For the price I can get the gun at I thought it migh be nice to include a good looking set of wood grips. Thanks

Tons of sights are available from night sights to fiber optic, even different adjustables from kensight and EGW , all for a Novak cut, the Hogue wood grips look nice but they really make the grip large and they generally have to have some fitting along the bottom to make mags seat easily, I would stick to factory or Hogue rubber ones , but they are big also. Good luck Bob

I bought a set of the Hogue rubber grips (same size as the nice wood grips) and soon put the stock S&W grips back on. The Hogue grips are much thicker and make the grip too large for my liking. I have a set of the Trijicon night sights on my 5906 and like them very much but they are non adjustable, except for windage by drifting the sight side to side. I think Brownell"s still has the S&W front sites in different heights.

Too bad about the grips. Are the stock S&W grips still available.

I just replaced my stock grips on a 4566 TSW with the Hogue rubber grips and I really like them. I think it is just personal preference, I picked them up at Midway for I think $19.00. You may just have to try them for yourself :)

Unfortunately the standard "Novak" cut on a 1911 isn't the same as the S&W dovetail for 3rd gen's or their 1911. So I'm sorry, but CALREB is mistaken; there is not a ton of options out there but there are probably enough to satisfy you. The good thing is Novak and LPA make several options. There are a few others: I think Warren Tactical did offer options at one time, Millet and MMC units are out there however no longer in production, and the best news is that anything made for the S&W 1911's will also fit a 3rd gen. So given the latter, chances are several options will continue to be available, but not as many as for the more common 1911 dovetails.

Meprolight makes their excellent tritium night sights for the Novak style 3rd gen S&Ws. Meprolight, Smith & Weston

Am I hearing you right? If I order XS Big Dot sights for a S&W 1911 they will fit a 39xx or 69xx?

Thanks,

There are XS big dot sight sets for 3rd gen autos. I've been running them on my 5906 for over a year. (And I'm over them for IDPA, but not sure I don't still like them overall.)

Would you know which ones? I can't tell from the 'wizard' they have at their website - XS Sight Systems - Sights

Would the smaller front sight work better for IDPA. I'm looking for something for a carry gun primarily but it will be used in IDPA too. I need something other than black for these aging eyes.

Thanks,
