What ever happened to the little sigma .380? Was it completely discontinued or is it just hard to find?

I must be the only person in America who likes the Sigma 380, and I'm sorry it was discontinued. I've owned one since about 1995 and carry it most every day. I fire it only once a year now, and I am sure it will eventually wear out because of the cheap materials used in its construction; however, for me it is a great concealed carry pistol. It's small enough to carry in a pocket but big enough for me to shoot - the recoil is heavy but not as bad as those 8-11 ounce 380's, and I can get a grip on it without using tweezers. Anyway, when it finally wears out I'll probably buy a Ruger LC-380, Colt Mustang, or Sig 232. The Bodyguard is too light for me and the Shield has too much recoil and the recoil spring is too strong for me to cycle. Actually I'd like to see S&W make a SD-380 about the size of the M&P Shield.

The SIGMA .380 was a fine little inexpensive back-up gun within its limitations. The alloy (zinc?) slide was a perceived weakness, but a thought-to-be necessary cost saving measure.

The SIGMA SW9M was a fantastic little pocket pistol with a unique magazine release that made unintended release of the magazine during pocket or ankle carry a virtual impossibility. The SW9M was ahead of its time. As good as it was, however, the Shield is better. It is a little more rounded, making carry easier and because it is locked breach instead of blowback operated like the SW9M, it handles recoil better. The price is higher, but price should not be a big consideration in a personal defense piece. Reliability and other factors, yes - price, no.

I bought a then-new Sigma .380 (SW380) in June, 1995, and a new 9mm Sigma (SW9M) in September, 1996. Put them in the safe, never shot either of them.

I guess I ought to move them on.

It was pretty much a piece of poorly engineered junk and was discontinued.

:eek:I remember it well,I trusted the magazine's hype and got burned by a horrible firearm:(.I remember getting a shot off only to dump the magazine on the ground, mag release was easy to hit while shooting. After a couple range sessions I had enough and off it went.I swore I would never buy another sigma and I haven't.Thankfully the Sd has been a big improvement over the sigma.

No worries, Shawn. I have always enjoyed your posts, as they are accurate and add to the conversion, and I agree with your opinions about 99% of the time.
