I have the Melonite Finish & it holds up good in wet weather & Draw
& shoot drills GREAT finish they have IMO Y/D

I have some Duracoat (clear) on a 1911. When one removes the stocks the Duracoat will lift off the frame, also it is not impact resistant (will start to flake).

Go ahead and get it done, I'm happy with mine

I had a 1st gen model 59 and the finish was looking kinda tired,It had some wear around the trigger where the metal was showing and the lines along the back strap were showing through. I met a guy online who did it for me,field stripped the gun and sand blasted it and degreased it and Duracoated it. I Even thought I was going to have to change the grips but no,He even blasted those separately and duracoated them in a metal grey and spattered them in black and it looks great. I have it holstered in a Bianchi black leather police rig and I am happy with the results. I'll post some pic's later..............As far as Duracoat lifting off,It all boils down to prep work. You need to etch the metal...(oxide blast)...you have to give it something to hold onto. It's all in the prep.
