I usually say SDVE, but if someone mentions Sigma, I suggest that it's the replacement

Agree with above...When you consider the frames are essentially the same as are the mags with slightly different floorplates.

We got a gunsmith here that says they the same he critizes them was gonna put a apex kit he says it still be the same..maybe time find another gunsmith..I thought they upgraded the sdve

Sigma was a model name (branding) given to the original F or C series, as in SW40F, SW9C, SW357V, etc. Those models were discontinued, reconfigured and born again as the SW9VE / SW40VE "Value Enhanced" version. Eventually the SW9VE / SW40VE series was discontinued as well. If it begins with SW, it is a Sigma. According to Smith & Wesson's own advertising anyway.

The "Self Defense" series SD9VE / SD40VE is another emanation of the line but also shares some lineage with the M&P (which shares some lineage with the Walker P99). The SD series are definitely not Sigmas.

I have the spring kit & the trigger in my SD9VE it how has a 6.5lb trigger pull I use it as my carry gun my poor man's Glock

The gunsmith trashes these guns..I have find someone to put it in...he's going lose my business it took him once a yr to put a stock on a mauser rifle ..but I like these sdve never had a malfunction of any kind ..

I own and have owned several SD series guns. I tried the Apex kit and found that it reduced the trigger down to the 6lb range. I tried the Galloway kit and it did nothing at all. I tried the Apex kit with AEK trigger, it was still in the 6lb range but with less take up and over travel. Tried a second Galloway kit and it did nothing to improve the trigger. After it was Apex or nothing at all.

I kept my original SD9 with Apex kit & trigger and shoot it often. The trigger is now down to around 5.75lbs with regular use and reminds me a Glock trigger with a little longer take up. I gave away my SD9VE's to family members, all of which are still in use and all of which are still problem free.

As far as your gunsmith goes; not everyone can see past their own bias. The gun culture is wrought with inaccuracies regurgitated as truths over and over. And generally not be people in the know but by people who heard from... or read that... or saw a YouTube video where... I pay these people as much attention as thy deserve.

My daughter had a Sigma 9mm and the trigger kept getting worse until it finally stopped working altogether. She traded it in at the LGS for a Springfield XD9 which she loves.
At the same time, I had the SD9 VE which was accurate and the trigger pull was tolerable. However, it ejected every single empty onto the top of my head. At the time, I could not find any remedy so I traded it in for a Glock 17 Gen3 which had some ejection issues of its own and were easily remedied. In addition, I got a $20 trigger kit which reduced the pull by 2 lbs.
Right now, I have the M&P 9c and I love it. I am considering getting the M&P 9 as a companion for my Glock 17.

Yep I got the sd9ve and it runs like a champ..I got it because my nephew has one got thousands rounds thru it still shoots like new...Trigger not bad I like a lime heavy trigger no accidents that way ...was going to do the apex but not these great guns for the money under 300 better than a hi point ..might get the 40 go with it...I think Smith dropped the sigma name and the swve and this one suppose to be better...I used not like them.but this one changed my mind...I carried a Smith for yrs mostly revolvers why trigger don't bother me

Eject direction

I think that ejection direction is pretty common, based on other posts and my initial experience with a new SD9VE. During my qualification shooting I had the designated ear muffs, baseball cap, and glasses. I finally had to button my top shirt button because shells were going down my neckline. [Warm but not enough to really burn me.]

I have to believe this is common to new SD's but it seems to go away. If I look at the extractor and ejector prong positions it surely seems that the shells should go up and to the right.

Any related experience?

KB: The Sigma & SW9VE use the same apex kit, while the SD9VE is different. There is a noticeable improvement in all 3 models with the apex kits, I would have to dig out my notes, but all of them decreased the trigger pull by at least 3 lbs. But the weight is not really important- it is the smoothness of the trigger that is the real benefit All the mags are compatible with each other. I have not had any ejection problems- all have been going to the right and back ( I am probably holding it wrong). As KB stated I grew up on Smith revolvers and continue to shoot them for the past 47 + years. Your "gunsmith" should be able to install and polish needed points in an hour, assuming 2 -15 min coffee breaks. Good Luck with the the SD/SW/Sigma. I have a few Sigmas Full & compact in 40 & 357 sig, I have been using them since they came on the market, before there where any forums to tell me they were bad!! Be Safe,

I have the same issue with only 250 rounds fired - straight back and off my head. You imply that as more rounds are fired this will remedy itself?

Personally I liked the original SD series the best.

All black with front sight being tritium.

Also the rear rails were molded in the frame.

when i first fired my SD9ve it put a few over or on my head, now after few hundred rounds, only a great once and a while one will go straight back, most go up to my right.

Still have my Sigma 9VE, eats everything you run through it, I did put the Apex spring kit in it, night sights, and duracoated the slide black. After all these years a month ago started to get light primer strikes with FTF, cleaned firing pin assembly and still light strikes. Did the Bic pen test and it would pop out of the barrel six inches, put a new firing pin and spring in , drop the bic pen in pull the trigger it hits the ceiling...took her to the range back to eating all the ammo I fed her with no lock ups.....love my Sigma 9VE
