I just bought a 9VE and took it to the range today. I noticed some galling on the top of the barrel. It is very noticeable. Has anyone else had this happen. I guess there is rough protrusion in the underside of the slide that caused this. I know it's just cosmetics but we always want our pistols to look good. It's a shame because it shoots so well and the trigger was actually smooth in this one. Should I send it back?

mines the same exact way.. same gun just a .40 its unpreventable..

Thats normal. It will stop "galling" at a certain point and look more like polishing eventually...

Make sure you get into the habit of putting a drop of oil on that point as well.

My SW40VE is similar although a little lighter with about 250 rounds shot through it. How many rounds had you shot when the photos were taken?

I assumed this was normal wear. I keep a drop of gun grease at that spot on the underside of the slide.

I shot about 100 rounds. So is this like having a turn line with a revolver? You just have to live with it?

Yup, they all do it as far as I've seen. Nothing wrong with it, just normal wear.

Put away your worry beads. It will look like that at the end of the first magazine. It will jook just the same at the end of 20,000 rounds. If you look at the inside of the slide there is a raised boss that rides on the barrel hood when it cycles. I wish all problems were this easy!

My Sigma .40 did the same. I had to polish the ramp on my Sig Mosquito, so I polished the ramp on my Sigma too. Then polished the wear spot to smooth it out.
When I go to the range next week I'll see if it wears. If it does, I'll polish again.

Hmm, my Sigma doesn't have that mark. I have the blued version and it has significantly more rounds through it.

thanks to all that responded. Although it does not affect the pistol's operation in any way, I still think it's unsightly. Oh well, live and learn. This is my first centerfire pistol. I have several S&W revolvers and the turn line is inevitable. I'll just learn to ingnore it.

That raised boss T'bull mentioned had a burr on mine, right at the opening for the ejection port. Easy to feel with my finger. Mine was only lightly scratched when I found it. I used a fine needle file to remove the burr.

Just bought a 9VE, took it to the range and put 150 rounds (trouble free) through the pistol. After shooting I noticed the same marks on mine. The trigger is much like my S&W revolvers when they are fired DA, so no problem for me.

I have the sw40ve i figured it was normal now i know for sure thanks.
