This was my first time I have ever shot a pistol at a target, and only my 2nd time shooting the sigma. Before that I might have put about 30 rounds thru some friends guns but that is all the "gunplay" I have ever had my whole life. I am 28/m/cali. I went to the range with a stock SW40VE and this is what I was able to do, I put 100 rnds, 50 wwb 180, and 50 Federal Amer eagle 180's, the targets were sent down to combat range of 15-20ft(7-9yrds aprox), I think its great to see the same pattern on both targets. This shows some form of consistancy on my part. I was also (on 2 shots) purposly limp wristing the gun, almost lost it from the kick, just to see how it ran.....no probs at all.
I have since removed the "pigtail" and lighty polished the sear to get rid of some grit and it could still use more work but now the starts and stops are gone and it only has a light rub on the "grit scale". I hope this improves my ability to be more accurate although I feel that it would have been fine without any mods, I did it to satisfy my need for smoothness. If you look at the targets you can see some low and to the right, which might seem normal for some but I am left handed, which makes me think that it is more somthing I am doing not the gun. I know for a fact that about 7-10 rnds I antisipated the "bang" and out of natural instinct closed my eyes, or filinched right before full pull on the trigger. I feel that with more time behinde the gun will tune my senses to better hadle what the gun gives me. All in all I am very proud of my attempt and can only hope to get better and pray that my sigma takes to the new mods, since I dont look forward to wrestling with the little pigtail should I have to put it back in.

I also added a pic of my home built tactical flashlight mounted to the sigma using a laserlyte rail adapter, a free 1in diameter LED light from Harbor Frieght, and an extra high mount scope ring mount that I had laying around(I shoot rifle). All in all the whole setup cost just the $12 for the rail adapter but could be made for $25 bucks if you had to buy all the parts. Granted it is a little "low-brow" but it does what it is supposed to do, and thats all I can ask of it. The button on the back can easily be turned on with the pointer finger of the shooting hand when held, and it is super light too. I didnt have it fully mounted due to my Fobus wont except the bulk, but it goes on when the Sigma is put into guard duty. Also just picked up a new pachmyr grip glove too, thoose things feel weird man, they are super soft and have a stickyness feel to them, not what I was expecting but I love the way it feels. I plan to hit up the range again tomarrow with the "done-up" sigma and should have some updates after. I hope you guys see that I am a true enthusiast, and hope to expand my shooting hobby as I geat ((more$)) better.....I really want a 1911 :)-Later

Sweet! Sounds like a fun trip to the range. Your targets look like mine (in a mirror...right handed). I have recently moved to These cool "Varment" Targets that have 10 targets in a grid. Lots of fun and I find that the yellow targets help me keep track of my shots in the range better then black as the holes tend to all blend together from 25 yards out.

Nice work on the custom light set up too!!

yeah, when I go tomarrow I will put some of the shoot n' see targets that I have in the middle so i can see whats going on. I also have some zombie's that need tending to, so I will be exterminating them as well ;). I really like the B-27's so I think with the reactive targets it will keep that thin paper more intact. I like the zombie targets for my 100yrd scoped .243, its more fun shooting them with a rifle since there is no real "center"....I really want to get some steel falling targets but 1-they are super expensive and 2- I live in Nor Cal, so there is no place outside to shoot, unless I drive up to the hills...anyway....glad to be in the Sigma club, even though somtimes I feel like I have to be a closet sigma owner, thats why I like this little group we have here, its a safe place for us to go where we dont always have to defend our ownership to the masses. Its like a VW bug....you just have to own one and drive one to really know what its all about......its about the character, it might not be the fastest or slickest thing on the road, but it has a way of its own. Kinda like, "a face that only a mother can love" syndrome. later

freesoulvw:

I am also fully left handed with a SW40VE (and by no means an expert). My targets used to look exactly like yours (low to the right).

In a strange twist of fate, I realized I shoot better with my right hand. Turns out my left arm is longer than the right. Shooting is more comfortable with the gun held in the right hand and the left hand around it. BTW, I am not suggesting you try switching hands.

Practice, more than anything else helped me improve.

I also used to have a vw (back in college). Uhm...coincidence? Lefty, SW40VE, VW...

Regards,

argon

I shoot righthanded and experienced the same (mirrored) results, but only with the SW40VE, so I was sure that it was something that I was doing. Watching some videos, I found out that I was shooting my semi-automatic with a finger position recommended for revolvers... the trigger firmly set in the joint. I changed it and after a couple of "pulls" found it to be much more accurate, just need more practice, I guess all those years of shooting revolvers created a habit that I have to unlearn!
