I have an SW9F which was built approx. 1997. It has the stock striker guide, which is a black plastic. I noticed SW sells a replacement, part no. 594938; however, the replacement striker guide is a white plastic. Is there a difference between the stock and this replacment striker guide other than the color? Also, as my Sigma is now 27 years old, how does one know when the stock striker guide needs to be replaced? My guess is that it doesn't need to be replaced as long as it's not damaged, but would like to hear views/experiences from others. TIA

S&W seemed to make the change to white around the 3rd gen Sigma pistols. I have come across E model 3rd gen Sigmas that still have the black plastic parts though so it must have been around the time the SW9/40VE versions hit the market. The white are the same dimensionally. Seems like the plastic/polymer they switch to with the white is harder and more slick than the soft black plastic of the earlier generations.

If you are new to 1st generation Sigma beware the frames can split and crack but normally its the 40S&W versions. Glocks had a tendency to crack back then sometimes as well in 40. Also beware of dry firing Sigmas without a snap cap. Those 1st and 2nd gen Sigmas have flat tipped strikers and like to break.

Im a pretty major Sigma fan but am well aware of their short comings. I've had 2 1st gen Sigma 40Fs crack frames at the rear of the locking block within the frame. The cracks are fairly minor and the pistols dont blow up but its concerning. You cant see them from the outside on an assemble pistol. No cracks on any of my SW9Fs yet but I tend to baby them and only run standard pressure.
