How do you take the slide apart on an SW9VE? My main question would be....How do you get the slide cover-plate off? I took my buddys Sigma apart by prying the cover with a flat screwdriver. It worked, BUT There has to be a better/easier way. I can detail stip my Glock slides no problem, but the Sigma seems alittle different. Thanks!

You still have to pry the back cover off whether you leave the striker loaded or unloaded. :)

The rear cover can be removed with very little effort once the striker sleeve is moved forward releasing pressure on the back cover. If someone were to "Pry" the cover off, damage to the sleeve and rear cover is likely to occur. Plus, the extractor spring will likely shoot across the room if someone is not expecting it to be there. A novice gunsmith with a screwdriver can do a lot of damage in a small amount of time!

Very true. :)

Relieving the striker spring pressure is one thing. You still have to pry the cover off the extractor spring. It's best to cover the end with your other hand because that extractor spring wants to go somewhere badly.

I fpund the channels clean and dry. I left them that way.

The extractor spring wants to disappear even more badly during reassembly. I'd almost rather bathe a cat.

Unless someone was dumb enough to put lubricant in the Sigma slide, there is no need to detail strip it for routine cleaning. Best left alone unless something is wrong.
I've used Sigmas for training for over a decade, and the striker assembly works fine if left alone. I've taken the entire gun apart for inspection after many tens of thousands of rounds and found there was no reason for taking it all apart.

If you remove the tension from the plate, slide the sleeve forward a bit, it'll damn near 'pop' off with your thumb. The problem is the rear 'cap' has a piece that the plastic piece on the firing pin fits into, you are trying fight that prying it off. As far as not taking it apart, I had a bunch of FTF the last time I went to the range, believe it was 'gun show' ammo. When I pulled it apart, it was loaded with brass and debris, the guy at the range thought it possible that some crap in the firing pin might be causing it to not strike the round right, (before I left the range, they let me shoot a clip of Magtec, worked fine).

Thats why I periodically blow mine out with dry, clean, compressed air after hosing it out with gun scrubber. No need to do it very often though. Most times I just clean the barrel and wipe down the bolt face with a qtip and Hoppes
