Silencer loud on M & P

I have coastal passport suppressor that I normally shoot on my Walther P22. It is very quiet.

When I put it on my new MP 15 22 it was considerably louder than my pistol?

Am I doing something wrong or is the 15 22 louder than the Walther P22?

also, the first time I shot through my suppressor yesterday the bullets were hitting the ground 30' away. I removed the washer that sits under the flash suppressor and shot again, no problems.

Check the business end (exit orifice)of your suppressor for signs of bullet impact.
AFAIK, you should not use a washer when mounting a suppressor.. in fact some manufacturers will void you warranty if you do.

As for perceived loudness, a longer barrel will allow the projectile to reach greater velocities. Most non-subsonic 22LR ammo is only a little faster than the speed of sound, so a shorter barrel, such as in your Walther, may not yield supersonic velocity.

Barrel length.... Need to run subsonic rounds (if you can get them to cycle the action reliably) and all you will hear then, is the action which is pretty quiet.

your walther has a 3.5" barrel which means it does have enough barrel length to reach full velocity of the round... so if your shooting fed. hv ammo that is rated at 1280 fps it will only get to about 850 before it exits the barrel. Now with the m&p having 16" of barrel which is considered the perfect length to reach full vel. on a rimfire the same ammo now breaks the sound barrier which is around the 140s in db. And thats not much quieter than the rifle unsuppressed.. Now you know the problem, the fix is to shoot sub sonic ammo threw your m&p. Or go integrally suppressed.. requires another 200 dollar tax and a custom upper


Hope this helps, and if you havent tried it a teaspoon of wire pulling gel shot into the threaded end of the suppressor really quiets them down assuming its sub sonic


oh and never run a crush washer on a suppressor.... huge no no

I checked out my silencer for any damage on the exit end and it does look like a bullet may have clipped the small hole at exit. A very minor blip...

Should this affect the bullets accuracy or noise level?

as long as its not still clipping it all should be ok

I shot with the suppressor last weekend and it is quieter with subsonics

However, I noticed that when I shoot with the suppressor with SUBSONICS the bullet has about a 3-8" drop, compared to normal bullets. (Shooting from 25-60 yards)

I was shooting remington SS, and will try the CCI ss this weekend.

Is accuracy and/or bullet drop normal with subsonics?

FYI: The bullet drop was about 3" at 25 yards

Slower bullet takes more time to reach target... thus drops more before reaching target.

Suppressed 15-22

I just mounted a .22 suppressor that is rated full auto on a 5.56mm AR. It should be whisper quiet with a .22LR. WRONG - I am using sub-sonic CCIs and when mounted to my bolt action .22LR it is no louder than a baby clapping. It is the action. I was able to make a buffer that took the sound of the bolt coming back but I can not do anything about the bolt going back into battery. The buffer reduced the sount about 50%. The 15-22 is going to be my night time Armadillo gun (I live in TX). I mounted a tactical 150 Lumun light and I can see as far as a .22 can shoot. Good Luck.

From some data I have found thru the years, your threads are too long. You need .4 length of thread and most 15-22's are threaded .625 long. if your washer was about .225 long, you should have been good to go.
Always make sure the alignment and tightness are ok before you shoot. As well as all the other shooting safety guidelines.
