Silencer/Suppressor

This is VERY interesting to me, as I have not yet begun to explore the silencer options - but I would like to. So...as a newbie to silencers, I have questions. Will I need to get my M&P 15-22 barrel threaded? How much is the license? How much does the Mask cost? Thanks for any info!

Back around 8 or 9 years ago when I got my first silencer on a form 4 it took 4 months to get my ATF $200 tax stamp. A year later I stamped 2 AR lowers as SBR's on a form 1 and it took 5 months.

Last year I heard about the eForm 1 and people getting their stamps back in 2 weeks. I thought that was impossible due to the fact a year before people were waiting 12 to 14 months.

I sent one in to SBR my 10/22 I pictured above and sure enough I got my stamp back in 23 days.

I was so happy about it I bought a CZ Scorpion S2 to SBR and a 9mm silencer kit from Quiet Bore. I got those 2 stamps back in 17 days.

If you want a killer quality silencer at a fraction of the cost of a big name model I'd look into Quiet Bore kits. I ordered their drill attachment to drill out the baffles and end cap. All are dead nuts centered.

When I bought my kit, I just ordered it online. I heard now the ATF got on them, so now you have to email them a copy of your form 1 before they will ship a kit to you.

Waiting a couple weeks is better than months to a year.

If your wanting a 22 silencer I'd highly suggest getting their titanium model. You can use the dip to clean titanium and stainless. The dip will clean one like new. Just get a glass or stainless bottle, pour it 50/50 vinegar and peroxide and let it sit overnight. Rinse it with water dry it off and it will look brand new. It will eat an aluminum silencer.

Mask = Dead Air Mask HD

It's one of the best rated .22 suppressors out there right now. Usually a little over $400.

There are versions of the 15-22 out there without threaded barrels. The non-threaded barrel can be threaded by a gunsmith, or you could sell the non-threaded version and buy one with a threaded barrel.

Never had any reason to want a suppressor. My Remington 550-1 handles .22 Short SV just fine, and makes little more noise than a BB gun.

The Dead Air Mask is a little over 400, then you have 200 for the stamp, local sales tax and then the cost of a trust if you go that route. Plus a mug shot and prints. It's an intimidating process, IMO that is by design, you have to set your mind to it and be determined. Once you get all your ducks in a row and paper work filed then you get to wait. Now that efile is back up and running most sellers are now expecting wait times of 90 days. Sure beats up to a year.

I spent a few weeks reading everything I could about gun trusts, the process, rules, etc..Silencer Shop came up with a trust that they sell called a single shot trust. It's designed for 1 NFA item per trust and they have an excellent streamlined process and do practically all the work to get you on your way. You might do some reading on their process.

At least now you don't have to get the head LEO in your county to sign off on a form anymore.

I've heard in the past some sheriff's would wait 89 days to sign off on one. I think they had 90 days to sign. Also heard some sheriff's flat out refused to sign them.

Mine was most cool. I'd wait in the lobby and if he was in that day, he'd sign it then.

My son was in Iraq with the DOD looking for stuff that was left or lost. His bunch found this AK with a silencer. They wanted to shoot it or take it home, but the powers that be said no.
