Yes, buy the tax still existed for everything else that was a pistol. There also wasn't a chance in the law like there is now. Those who took advantage of the pistol brace amnesty simply got a tax break. It's kinds sorta like getting a fine for speeding or other traffic fraction, but the judge says you don't have to pay the fine if certain conditions are met. The NFA law allows the Attorney General (who was Merrick Garland at the time) to be in control of the collection of the tax.Well the free SBR from pistol stocks still had registration with no tax, so who knows…
I honestly don't believe he had the right to zero out the tax per the text of the NFA, but no one on our side were going to challenge it.
