Since 9mm ammo is hard to find........

Not sure about your areas but here in the Austin area 9mm ammo is almost impossible to find in most of the common stores (i.e. Walmart, Academy, etc...) and any local gun stores that have any left in stock are jacking up their prices. Once a shipment comes in it is gone within a couple of hours. So today the wife and I deciced to make the trip down to Cabels which is a 42 mile one way trip from our house. They had a bunch on the shelves when we got there at 10:30 this morning. By the time we left the store at 1pm the main shelf where they have the 9mm ammo had been cleaned out and one of their side displays had about 6 boxes left of something I had never heard of at $10 a box. They had stashed a couple of cases of PMC a few isles down from their ammo section and I don't think people had really noticed. I found these on accident as I went back for more after I talked my wife in to looking at some handguns. That is why we were at the store for 2 1/2 hours.......convinced her to look at something she thought she would really like and we walked home with a new Glock G26 Gen 3 for her to use after we finish our CHL class in a couple of weeks. We are now the proud owners of 4 new 9mm's in the past month+. Only bummer today was the fact that they only let you buy 10 boxes of ammo at a time. We went to the range yesterday and burned through almost 250 rounds.

May as well order online and wait "in line". Might be a while before we can just walk in and purchase. Just make sure you have good quality ammo that you KNOW feeds reliably in your autoloader, 'cause some of that junk snags up like a rabbits head in hounds throat.
You don't want to be doing that "tap rack bang" thing at 3 in the morning.

I see a lot of complaints about poor quality "junk" 9mm ammo (I guess that means S&B, TulAmmo, Magtech, Prvi, Winchester WB, etc.) But I've fired all of it with no problems whatsoever. I guess my Colt GM is just a lot more trouble-free than all those junk plastic black guns.

I have been shooting Magtech and PMC mostly. I had to buy a couple of boxes of Winchester WB and Remington because there wasn't anything else to buy once. I hadn't had any issues with Magtech until just this last weekend but I think it might have been more an issue of my new magazines and not the ammo.

I have been shooting S&B and PMC in my Glock 17 in matches and range for the last 6 months without a single malfunction of any kind.

Save your brass and take up reloading. One way to fight high cost of ammo and shortages.

Reloading is a great alternative, but has anyone looked for primers lately? They're gone as well.

A tip about primers. If you can't find small pistol (those seem to be the most scarce at present), try small rifle. They work fine in all my revolvers (.38, .357, .32-20) and my .38 Super Colt GM, but may not work so well in autos with weaker firing pin impacts.

Its ok to be in a Cabela's for more than 2 hours. Don't be ashamed they have guns and knives and bows and camo and things that once lived but now are dead and on display.

The reason people complain about poor quality "junk" 9mm
ammo being commonplace today is that poor quality "junk"
9mm ammo is commonplace today. 115 gr 9mm ball ammo
that chronographs only 1050 -1065 fps and will not even cycle
the action of my much fired 1977 vintage Browning HP is poor
quality ammo period. It is auto pistol ammo after all and if
it is so underloaded that it won't function in a well used
quality gun of proven reliability that still has it's original
factory springs then what do the manufacturers expect the
unsuspecting buyers to do with their junk? Buy 9mm
revolvers? I own a variety of 9mm autos, fourteen in all,
none of them are junk including the three that have polymer
receivers, and I confess to never having seen a "plastic black
gun". None firing real ammo anyway. Some of my guns
tolerate steel cases, some don't. Interestingly my WW2
vintage guns, two German Lugers and an Astra 600 are ok
with it. I guess the real reason ammo companies sell tons
of poor quality 9mm ammo is because they can.

My SIG 228 loves S&B. I use S&B hunting ammo too (7x57r and 16 Ga Brenneke and shot), and think it's good stuff, personally. The Czech's have been making quality ammo for a long time. PRVI is another matter, however, I've never had one fail. I shoot that S&B in my 547 also, and it's pretty darned accurate.
