Am I dreaming or is it possible my grandfather had a Single Action only K frame 38? I'm thinking maybe Jan. of 1954.

Some can enlighten me and maybe a pic?

They could be ordered with single action only or the sa hammer could be purchased seperately and dropped in.
I have several K-38s in SA only. They are not all that hard to find but I do believe that the special order ones are much more rare.
What ever happened to your Grandfather's gun?

I wish I knew. I was barely 10 at the time and we stopped in on our way overseas. Dad was Navy and we were being transferred from stateside assignment and going overseas.

He died 2 years later and I never knew what happened to his guns

I have a single action that I bought brand new in 1965. I ordered it that way. It has the short hammer fall & 3 T's. Have the original box but no paperwork(whut-a-dummie.) After 1000's of rounds the timing is so perfect there is no cylinder ring. A tiny bit of blue wear on the muzzle from the box(whut-a-dummie.)

Slim: The Model 14 (aka before model numbers as the K-38 Target Masterpiece) was available in single action only from the factory. I had one and let it go a year or so ago due to brain fade. The ones I've seen were all target models, with adjustable sights. Nice guns, a bit rare, but not a whole lot of value...$400.00 in excellent condition, and $450 NIB; good shooters, tho!

I was reading about this today in SCSW. Apparently pulling the trigger would rotate the cylinder, but not bring the hammer back.
