Single Picatinny under Front Sight of M&P Sport 2? Or something else?

Hi all,

In looking at the M&P 15 Sport 2, it appears to have something that looks like a single Picatinny under the front sight. However, the owners manual doesn't call this out. It would appear to be a great place to snap in a tactical light, but I'm not sure what the intent of the small piece of grooved metal is. Any assistance or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

You're looking at a bayonet lug.

Mine doesn't. Just the bayonet lug.

I put this rail extender on mine. Got it off Ebay and it's well made, cnc'd aluminum. Works well....



Its the little piece right below the sight post.
