ok guys as the heading says:confused:

i have a single stage 3.5lbs CMC trigger in my 15-22

and was thinking of buying another 15-22 but with a 12" barrel.

As CMC have brought out a 2 stage drop in trigger, what are the

advantages of a 2 stage over my single stage.

Hi Keith

I guess it will really depend on what you are wanting to do with the second one.

Speed shooting with single stage for fast reset and shot release or more precise deliberate shooting which will give you the two stages for steady take up and release then follow through of each shot.

Each has its own merit but really depends on what you want to achieve.

Short barrel may or may not make much difference in accuracy again depending on what you are wanting and the distance you are shooting.

UK 15-22 being that bit more accurate maybe a mix of both.

Personally I like the 2 stage as that's what I'm used to. All my shooting of Mil Spec stuff is two stage with exception of belt fed gpmg.

Upto you I guess. Either way you will I'm sure enjoy it once you finish it.

I have a 2 stage match trigger on my Anschutz bolt rifle, i find that the take up is a nice prep to the glass rod break of the 2nd stage. It breaks at 1.1lb / 502g. which is .2g over the Bisley trigger weight limit.

Having that light a second stage makes a huge difference for my accuracy and is much more 'responsive' at the brain/nerve impulse/finger movement/trigger release, that i could not go back to a single stage trigger for my offhand precision competitions. The hardware is perfect and leaves no room for the operator to blame the equipment. (unfortunately :p )

On a semi-auto I'm not sure if the 2 stage would really be utilised as well as it could be because the 1st stage would not really bring any benefit if you are rapid firing, unless you were taking your time between shots and really exploiting both stages of the trigger. I personally love my Anschutz match grade trigger, it has indeed spoilt every other trigger i have shot with.

Saying that, if this is a second rifle then i would definitely give it a go.

I have a 2 stage on each of my match AR platforms. When I was physically able to shoot service rifle, the two stage trigger was very beneficial in the rapid fire stages of a match. Needless to say, the benefit was compounded in slow fire.

Both of my AR prone rifles sport 2 stage triggers for the same reasons. Only my CQB M4 type rifle has a stock single stage trigger.

On my bolt rifles, I have single stage triggers with lighter, crisp releases.

The question that you need to answer is, how much precision accuracy are you looking for.

The advantage of a 2 stage is that you can achieve what feels like a very light let off without lowering overall pull weight to levels that might promote negligent discharges. The disadvantage is that this comes at the price of significantly more trigger travel before let off as you have to pull through the first stage.
