Sir Roger Moore has passed

At least he enjoyed 89 years! My favorite Bond is Connery but I have so say that Daniel Craig is a very close second! I think Craig is a "Better Bond" it's just that Connery is the "original".

Always loved the guy even when the James Bond movies got so silly they nearly jumped the shark. :)

R.I.P. Sir Roger Moore.

Sir Roger Moore, James Bond actor, dies aged 89 - BBC News

I loved him as the first James Bond (that I saw and grew up with-wondering who Connery was when I saw him as Bond later) when channel 3 here in CC, often played James Bond movies.

My favorite Moore non-Bond movies are: The Wild Geese and FFolkes. Rest in peace Sir Roger--you will sorely be missed.

While it is a sorrow for anyone to pass on, you must admit he lived a good .... LONG ... life. What else could you ask for ? Plus his wives were Italian. He had the best of it all and was a talented Gent.

PS: Timothy Dalton, put up a good #2 to Connery's Bond by portraying Bond probably better than Connery in so much as the cold, calculated killer (for Queen and Country, of course) that Bond was written to be.

I have a theory......

Sad to see that he's gone. I think his version of Bond was a bit too prissy for my taste, though. The "King of the Bonds" was (of course) Sean Connery. Hope he'll be around for a while longer, even in "character" roles.

John

I have a theory that James Bond should look as good in a tuxedo as he does in a bar fight. Hence, Sean Connery. He hit both aspects very well.

Moore portrayed the dapper part well, but I'll give it to Connery when the going gets rough.

Roger Moore could inject humor without being silly. That jump with the AMC across the bridge was a hoot, especially to me, an AMC owner.

I walked right past him back when I worked at Dulles Airport in the early 80's.
He was standing in line waiting for the gate to open for a flight to Paris.
By the time I got a pen and something to write on to get his autograph, he was gone.

Sadly, I had a chance to send my Wild Geese lobby cards to him to sign, but I kept Fforgetting to send them off.

Roger Moore wasn't my favorite James Bond (that would be George Lazenby - really) nor my least liked (Daniel Craig). But he was close to the top, #3, just after Sean Connery.

Sean Connery will always be Bond for me, he was the first and the 007 I grew up watching. Moore had the necessary sophistication to play the role and I liked his movies but I'd have to rank him #3. Daniel Craig is the 007 I always wanted Sean Connery to be.

I was generally pleased with Pierce Brosnan's portrayal. I was very pleased with Dame Judi Dench as M, an excellent choice as I'm a fan of hers anyway. I think Ralph Fiennes has potential as M, he was impressive in Skyfall and Spectre.

I saw most of his Bond films as a teenager. They were okay, and he was Bond to me. Connery's Bond was a bit before my time. I was very young when those came out. I think I was three when Dr. No was released. Of course, I saw them later on.

I was a rabid fan of Peter Sellers' Pink Panther films. I remember at the very end of the one Sellers was filming when he passed (the name of the film escapes me now), that Roger Moore was shown as Clouseau complete with the funny accent.

I was looking forward to the next film with Moore as Clouseau. Of course, that never happened.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Bond.

Well, I'm one of those folks who are old enough to think of Moore as "The Saint" rather than James Bond, who I grew up watching Sean Connery portray.

Regardless, Sir Roger brought a great deal of pleasure to many of us over the years, and I regret his passing.

By the way, as someone who read many of the Bond books before the movies came out featuring Sean Connery, I had this gentleman's face in mind when I visualized Bond:

In the first adventure, "Casino Royale", written in 1953, nearly a decade before Connery became Bond, Ian Fleming described Bond as looking "rather like Hoagy Carmichael". Well, this is the Carmichael that Fleming would be describing, he was born in 1899, and this photo was taken in 1947, just a few years before "Casino Royale" was written. So some of us old timers were critical of even Connery playing Bond.

Best Regards, Les

Just read today some of his comments.

Of Sean Connery he said that Connery is an excellent actor but he cannot understand a word he says.

Describing his acting, he said he could raise one eyebrow and than the other.

RIP
He wasn't my favorite Bond, but I did like him in his first Bond role, 'Live and Let Die'.
Or was it Jane Seymour I liked? (hubba hubba!!!)

Trivia Question, in the TV series " The Saint" what kind of car did he drove?

R.I.P. Sir Roger, he may not be the best James Bond, but his Bond films are always entertaining.
