Sir Roger Moore has passed

Trivia Question, in the TV series " The Saint" what kind of car did he drive?

A set of wheels that a middle class fan could afford - Volvo P1800

It was Moore's personally owned car.

Jay Leno had this car on his "Garage" show. They said that when The Saint first started production, they approached Jaguar and Aston Martin to supply a car for the star, but they refused. Moore's car did double duty as his daily commuter to the set, and then before the cameras.

Sad news - Sir Roger Moore was fine actor and good guy. While I grew up in the Brosnan era, ine some ways I grew up with Moore as his Bond movies were always on tv. While he may have not been as serious Connery, he played the role in such a unique way it is hard not to like him. His Bond had an excellant way of making smart quips - nobody did it better!

So what is a spy supposed to look like? I guess I would choose someone with a nondescript appearance and not much of a flamboyant personality who would blend easily into the background. Allegedly, Ian Fleming's model for the James Bond character was a composite of Dusko Popov, the ace British spy of the WWII era and Porfirio Rubirosa, the famous Dominican playboy/diplomat. Who looked like Hoagy Carmichael.

Well, I'm one of those folks who are old enough to think of Moore as "The Saint" rather than James Bond, who I grew up watching Sean Connery portray...

In the first adventure, "Casino Royale", written in 1953, nearly a decade before Connery became Bond, Ian Fleming described Bond as looking "rather like Hoagy Carmichael". Well, this is the Carmichael that Fleming would be describing, he was born in 1899, and this photo was taken in 1947, just a few years before "Casino Royale" was written. So some of us old timers were critical of even Connery playing Bond.

Best Regards, Les

Some time back, I read that Ian Fleming indeed, didn't picture Sean Connery as James Bond, but when he saw Connery act on the set of Dr. No, he changed his mind.

Yaakov Meidad was the Mossad spy who was part of a team that captured Eichmann and later he was sent to kill a Latvian Nazi by the name of Herbert Cukurs. After befriending Cukurs Meidad killed him in Uruguay.

That's a picture of a spy. Not very handsome or tall or muscular. Just some avg unassuming guy.

Agreeing with some others in the thread, "The Saint" and "Ffolkes" are my favorite Roger Moore shows.

I noticed he had quite a bit of tv history under his belt. Maverick, Ivanhoe, The Saint. Ive seen only 1 Maverick episode with him in it so far--a season 2 ep. I remember watching The Saint-in re-runs early 70's but don't remember the show.Never seen Ivanhoe--but will seek out some to view.
