Hi all,

I recently bought a pair of used walnut j-frame grips and the screw inserts seem to need a much narrower screw than the standard smith walnut grips.

I went through my collection of grip screws and could find nothing that was of small enough diameter.

Does anyone know if Smith and Wesson ever used a smaller diameter screw for some of these older grips? I would but one from Numrich if I knew the correct part number.

The grips fit perfectly on my Model 49.

Thanks!

They did apparently use a smaller screw at some point in time, or with some models....one of my old sets of j-frame grip panels does have a smaller screw, as you described.

The larger "J" version (newer) head diameter is .110" vs. the smaller diamerter being .095". The thread size is different also....the smaller is 3X48, and the larger shafted screw is 5X44. Not sure about correct part numbers for each.

Perhaps you could give S&W Customer Service a call. They may be able to provide a new, proper sized screw. 1-800-331-0852
