6 or 8 weeks ago there was a gun show close by, small perhaps 50-70 tables. It was perfect timing to break cabin fever. I went and did not have any luck but there was a 1959 Colt National Match on a guys table. I did not take much cash and had a Rem 25-06 for trade. He did not want log guns, we had something planned and I couldn't go back Sunday.
Today I took some handguns that had been gathering dust in the back top shelf of the safe hoping if he was there and still had the Colt I might be able to trade into it. He had it marked at $1200.00.
I found him and had to pay a little boot. It has a couple of small pin size rust marks where someones finger went through the trigger guard. Original finish, does not appear to have been shot much. I felt totally wonderful with my new NM. It is the 2nd one, I traded into a 1966 about a year ago.
I found a 1911 leather holster, Brauer and sons St. Louis for 10 bucks, took 3 boxes of 25-06 PPU and sold them for 30 bucks and bought 2 boxes of NOS yellow box 150 grain Win in 300 win mag for 30.
Weird day, I'm in KS, I was raised in south central MO. I was there just after they opened. The guy that checks guns and puts on the tie wraps on them was in the john, the lady that took the money asked a guy with the closest table to check my guns. I had a 686 with me, he said he now likes Smiths and has a REG MAg at home. A guy brought one into a gun show who did not know what it was and asked a cheap price, this guy said he was not into DA handguns, as he's CAS or SASS kinda guy, and bought it not knowing what it was. Later a dealer looked at it and told him.
So there are some floating around and hope for some of us blind hogs.
I mentioned a pawn/LGS in my home town whose owner had steered me away from the old worthless long action S&W's years ago saying the new ones were much better. I said most of his business was GI's, he Said Ft. Leonard Wood? I said yes. Ends up Mike A. grew up in my hometown, he's 10 years younger and lived next to 2 brothers who were my age, I went into the service with the younger one. He told me my friend Frankie had passed last year due to a rare blood cancer. We had been friends since kindergarten, We had not spoken much since my parents passed as I did not go back there. I went to a quiet corner and shed some tears.
After I owned the National Match the fella asked to see the 686, asked why I was selling it, I told him it was my truck gun and doesn't get used since we sold the farm in SE Ks at a specific town. 2 brothers had the table next to the Colt guy and over heard the town. They said hey we are from there, they remembered my step kids and their Dad worked at the same hospital as my wife. Today ended up great and finding out it is a small world was fun too, but weird.
