I got the product alert notice. I called. Service rep said they were gone in 20 min. Said it was a almost a joke as they did not ship them very many at all.

If you don't have any in stock, you can price them as cheaply as you want!

Yesterday one of our branch operations had a burnout on their phone system. Probably lightning related. I did what any good American boy would do. I searched the internet for a replacement. I found one for $150. Except they were out of stock. So I kept creeping up the price ladder. Lots of them advertised, but none even in the sub $300 range. I finally found one for $314.

All advertising something cheap does is distort the market. People won't buy at the going rate because someone else is "selling" for less. Except they aren't selling.

At a gunshow a while back a guy had been interested in one of my guns. He tried to use the competition ploy on me. He said the guy 2 aisles over had a nearly identical gun for $100 less. I told him to buy it! He couldn't, the guy had already sold it to someone else.

Dick, I guess I'm evil, because I've "had fun" at gunshows before.

I've put out a nice piece (or even three) on the table, and priced it at some ridiculously low price on the back of the tag, and put "sold" on the front.

I put out a 29-2 NIB like that, and put $300 on it a while back, and put "sold" on the front of the tag. Should have seen the looks on the other exhibitors coming around to scalp what they can before the show opens when I told them that a guy gave me $10.00 to hold it until he got back with the cash.
Priceless!

Sorry for the drift.

I understand the frustration when companies advertise what they don't have or never had for that matter. I think this is another contributing factor the primer situation may be being perceived as worse than usual.
