Does anyone recall the comics character, Smilin' Jack, from the 1950's? He used guns, but I don't know the models. I think I recall seeing Colt Model M's or their .45's...In one case, he escaped the Soviet Union, taking a guard's Nagant revolver. The writer knew that it held seven rounds.

But I believe he flew a plane too, and wonder about the make and model.

He also had a companion whose shirt buttons kept popping off, if i have the right strip in mind.

I was a little kid then, and some details are hazy.

Anyone know his plane? I think it may have had floats/pontoons to land on water.

The corpulent Fatstuff had buttons popping off his tight-fitting shirt, never explaining how the buttons magically regenerated from one panel to the next. Mosley sometimes drew a chicken in one corner of the panel, eating buttons as they flew off.[

Google is your friend>>> :D:D:D

But I DO remember the strip.. " New York Daily News" or the "Journal American!! "

You would remember the 50's so vividly! :D :p ;)

Are you thinking of the movie "The Adventures of Smilin' Jack" The Adventures of Smilin' Jack (1943) - IMDb

As I recall Smilin' Jack was also one of the pilots in the comic strip "Steve Canyon" which was popular post WWII. I suspect the movie and comic strip were both taken from the same character.

There was also a comic strip by the same title written by Zack Mosley.

If you go to the link there is a link on the IMDB site that will take you to a free(?) full length archived copy of the movie that may answer your question.

Comics

Two comics from years ago stick in my mind, in Captain Easy a criminal named Jake Pilcher confessed to a crime before they could give him his Miranda rights and he got off, the other one was in "Out our way" Major Hooples wife ran a boarding house and the Majors brother Jake Hoople said I have to go check on my investments and he went down the steet to a pay phone and pulled a stuffed tissue out of the coin slot and reovered the change that never fell out.
