I recently ordered a couple of parts from S&W and delivery was expected yesterday (Friday 8/16). It did not arrive as expected but this morning I received a text message from "USPS" informing me that my delivery was delayed because of an incomplete address and a link was provided to update my address.

DO NOT CLICK on any link, even if it looks "official!" I smelled a rat when a $.30 "redelivery charge" was imposed--fortunately I did not provide any further information (CC #) and I blocked the caller numbers--I noticed when I went to block the numbers that it was a "group" conversation and there were 3 other numbers listed on the message.

This may not happen to you, but it did happen to me and I almost got taken in, so please learn from my mistake!

BTW my parts arrived with today's delivery and the printed label from S&W was perfectly clear and correctly addressed.

I often get those messages when I am expecting a package. I suspect the scammers somehow have access to the USPS tracking info.

I recently purchased a new laptop. The old one didn't enjoy having a beer tipped over in the middle of the keyboard . The new machine came with a link to MacAfee "for a free one-month trial." I didn't activate because I have used Norton satisfactorily for years and will continue to do so. A couple days later I received an "invoice" from "MacAfee" for the bargain price of $4,000 for a four-year subscription . Please click here. I noted that they had my first name, no last name, and (thankfully) no credit card information. After hyperventilating a moment, I clicked delete :D. Be safe out there.

Think about it. Why would the USPS have your phone number? Or your e-mail.
If you have a USPS account or have used their notification system for tracking updates they could have either or both depending on how you set it up.
They have a thing called informed delivery, they take a pic of you mail and send it to you.
I don't have this account because my mailbox is 2' from the door, but I have family members that their mailbox is 1/2 mile from their door and they have that account.
I'll bet a large percentage if people have used the tracking notification system and many younger people use the informed delivery.

I don't use informed delivery, my daughter does and while it shows you what is coming it often does not arrive for another day or two.

I have used the tracking and the only notification I have received are ones I specifically requested.

I was thinking once you're in their system, you're there for life.

I could be wrong though.
