smith and wesson 500 manufacture date

I have a smith and wesson serial number ctw87xx i am just curious as i have seen others give numbers and can tell an approximate manufacture date.

S & W tracks by ship date; a popular gun will ship soon after being produced, while a slow seller may take months to years to leave. Having said that, a CTW prefix gun probably shipped in 2005. Hope this is helpful.

update, called smith and manufacture date was feb 16 2013.... guess they dont clean em well lol.

Ah yes, the danger of thinking S & W makes guns in alphabetical order...CTA was shipped in late 2004, so they waited 8 years to get to CTW.

I feel better knowing it was a new gun. I purchased it roughly 2 weeks later. The paper wrapping the gun was ripped and the cylinder was pretty dirty.

My 500 I just got has SN# BCE08xx. What's the born on date for this one. It's been in the previous owners safe for a while now and never fired by him so it basically new.

I see the test date on the casing included on my 500 is from 5-23-03. So does that mean my 500 was made 10 years ago.

If that is the box that came with your 500 then yes Brad your gun is 10 years old. But no worries, they will last a long time.
