It should be 1980 (give or take), S&W did not ship in serial number order.

Being 1980-ish, it should be a 66-1, pinned barrel, recessed cylinders.

What is the most desirable of the 66. My friend just picked up a 66 no dash 2 1/2 for his wife and was wondering what its value might be.

Not trying to Hi-Jack this thread just adding to its diversity.:D

For me I would like the no dash and the short barrel. Some
people don't care about the older guns. Don

Two different questions...many like the 2 1/2 and 4" 66s, and earlier models with the pinned barrel and forged hammer and trigger. The one that seems to generate the most interest recently is the 3" version.

Nicer early 2 1/2" 66s have been running in the $500-600 range recently, from what I have observed. Hope this is helpful.

Do you have any idea of the serial when the 66-1's had no pinned barrel but recessed cylinder?

Great find on the 2 1/2 inch. Around California any model 66 or model 19 is running $500 to $695.00. The ones for in the $600 to $700 range usually come with a box or unfired with box. You will not regret the purchase. I have two 66s 4 inch barrels and love them.

Congrats,

I'm trying to narrow that down. So far it appears to be the late 90K's with the -2 showing up in the 200K's. I know that's is pretty broad and vague but I hope that soon I can narrow it down some.

But, with S&W, I expect there are a couple P&R ones with serial numbers higher than a non-pinned one.
