A couple of years ago I purchased a Smith and Wesson Model 15-6. This particular model has a heavy barrel contour that is approximate to the M-19/66 Revolvers just without the ejector rod housing. I refer to it as having a "Battle Worn" Finish but it functions and shoots well. I began my LE career in 1980 with a SW M-15 in similar shape, which was my first real foray into handguns. The concern that I have is that pin that the trigger is mounted to internally is visible and slightly protrudes out of the left side of the frame below the cylinder window. Since 1980, I have owned and still own countless Smith and Wesson Revolvers but have never seen this pin visible before. Can someone enlighten me to it.

The various original pivot and retaining pins are polished and finished to be invisible, or nearly so, so this one has been replaced.

murphydog, should this be a cause for concern? Is it your opinion that it was replaced by Smith and Wesson or by someone external of the company? Would I get anywhere inquiring to Smith and Wesson about it?

Agree with Alan the trigger pin likely broke and was replaced.
IMO not a concern on a nice shooter...on a collectible gun it would effect resale value.

As long as your Model 15-6 is functioning correctly no cause for concern IMO....

On a side note the 15-5 and 15-6 are interesting guns as they are really more like a 4" Model 14 than the old tapered barrel 15's.
Another interesting thing is if you compare the frame yoke cut it is likely longer ( like the Model 19) to mate to an ejector rod shroud barrel....remember that the 14 and 15 had the same frame at that point and the 14 had a full underlug barrel similar to the (L frame) Model 586.

Not sure if those later non magnum K frames were heat treated the same as K Magnum frames but guessing they were not.

I would guess that if it functions normally that it would be of no concern. You could certainly call S & W customer service (with the SN handy) and see if they can pull a service record out of their system. If the appearance or knowing the part was replaced bothers you they can certainly redo it.

Model 15-6

I had a 67 with the same heavy barrel that I bought at a gun show. The pin was flush with the frame. Unfortunately it had push off issue that I never checked for when I bought it. Back to Smith and they fixed it for around $150, so it turned out to be not such a good deal. I'm thinking the seller knew this, but I'm not a positive thinker! Heavy barrels are great on both the 15 and 67, they seem to be a bit rarer.

Its strictly a shooter and not a collector piece. I'll just keep on shooting it as long as it will let me. I'm in it for less than $300 so I'm not hurting.
