Saw one last Sunday at my LGS, so my guess is yes

They still make them. They are still on the website in eight versions. They have spent the time, money, and headaches to make California and Massachusetts compliant versions. They also sell it in two versions with low capacity magazines to enable sales in states which have a capacity limit. I suspect that the SD--VE is one of the better money makers for Smith and Wesson. Its used widely in many foreign countries (especially in the Pacific Rim) for police issue.

You need a better advised gun shop.

(BTW -- the guys at my local shop showed me a couple of brand new ones that have steel rear sights. Don't know why they would have changed -- perhaps they ran out of plastic ones??).

I worked part time at a LGS (national chain) for about two years. Lot of nice guys and very knowledgeable when I started. Due to poor pay and bad management, all of the good ones left. I left there in 09, but called in 13 to ask about picking up firearm. Kid who answered said the company was out of business. Called the company. They were suprized to find out they weren't in business any more. They's a passel 'o mis-in-for-mshun out thera, sun! And we gets a heap 'o it.
