Hello,
Picked up this little gem last week at a local pawn shop with box as pictured for 372.
Serial dates this one around 1970.
Any others out there post em up.

I bought one a couple years ago like new in the box for $400. It was so nice I really didn't want to shoot it. I took it to Tulsa to trade. As I was setting up the table a guy offered me $550. I bought a 2.5 inch nickel 19-5 for $650. It seems to have worked out but it was a great gun.

This one dates to about 1974. I think that either this model, or the Model 67 were carried by the police in Louisville KY in the 1980's. In another thread here I learned that a commonly issued box of ammo was 18 rounds... ;):D

Nice! That gun would be $900 or more here if one ever showed up. I paid $700 for one from an online retailer and thought I got a bargain. My area of the country has some of the worst prices for used guns.

Wow if I saw that I would have to buy it too. I have never seen a good deal at a pawn shop. I very rarely have been in one. Everything is priced like it is new. I keep hearing all of those good deals.

My model 64 is one of the heavy barrel , it was retired from Baton Rouge Police Department when they came into the 20th century and armed their men with adjustable sighted 357 magnums ... stiill S&W 's and stainless steel though .
I mounted a Red Dot sight and it gets 98% of the range time ... accurate and fun revolers ... You gonna Love it !

$700 seems to be the going price for one in good shape. I bought mine for under $600 from an LGS last summer (one of my two Covid Cabin Fever buys).

A Cabelas in Allen Tx had one for sale for $750 this week, and they ship to any of their stores in any state at no charge. $900 seems a bit excessive(?)

I said my part of the Country. I should of said my part of Texas. The one I did buy was from Houston. New gun prices are competitive though.

I thought I overpaid a bit for mine (in the Midwest), but as I said, there was the whole Cabin Fever thing at a time when I would have been going to an outdoor range with friends, and what can I say... it was clean and shiny! :D:D
(and I had just sold a couple plastic guns for a good price)

Great-looking revolvers! I like rubber grips for shooting, especially with heavier calibers, but damn those factory wooden grips look good!

I remember when Smith expanded the stainlees offerings beyond the #60. What a great day. I also remember that they all initially had stainless hammers and triggers and that S&W switched to chromed carbon steel hammers and triggers a few years after the 64, 65, 66, and 67 were introduced. Since the pencil barrel 64's were an early offering and were discontinued after only a few years, do all of them have stainless hammers and triggers or did Smith make any with the chromed carbon steel hammers and triggers? If so about what serial number was the change?

Thanks for letting me pick your brains.

Best Regards,
ADP3

I got mine a few years ago. It was in an incorrect plastic box, which I sold to another customer as I left. It looks real nice with elk antler stocks and the Bianchi flap holster.

I got my 64-1 for $7 more than the OP's ($379 OTD) but shoot...mine is Heavy Barrel, 1976 s/n, well worn Magna's, nice tight fitting Tyler T, some "cop character" bumps and bruises..but a pretty nice gun for the money.

I've got 2 Model 10's, a blue and a nickel, both with tapered barrels, and actually I favor the Model 64 for balance and accuracy in my hand.

Even EDC for a while with Speer Gold Dot 135 grain HP ammo and some extras on speed strips. Alas...pretty heavy affair for EDC so went back to J Frame snubby, same Speer Plus P ammo though.

Mine was a former local police gun though not marked with any agency so don't need a box or documents and I won't be Lettering this one, but I would like to get a nicer set of Magna's some day. I understand that the former LEO owner cleaned the gun periodically with Hoppes No. 9 saturated on old T-shirt and without removing grips.:D
