SMITH & WESSON 38 SPECIAL

Smith says any J-frame model with a dash is rated for +P ammo.

Having said that, I doubt anyone thinks a steady diet of it in an airweight frame would think it's a good idea, IMO. I know I wouldn't.

No, S&W doesn't say that. There is a chart that comes with some models of guns in the owner's manual that shows the various models and ammo recommended for them.

Ah, but they DO say that. Any J-frame with a dash is +P rated, airweight or steel framed. Might have it on their web site too, I haven't looked in a long time.

I will drive 400 miles to watch my grandsons football game this Friday. He has two in the conference that are a 500 mile round trip. Such is life in Montana. If I really wanted it 400 miles would not deter me.
If I needed a 38 revolver I would not drive 40 for a model 12 unless price or collectability won me over.

Sorry but you are wrong. If I can read the chart correctly I don't understand why you cannot. Look at the link provided.

Interesting thread

It started out discussing the M12 (a K frame), but somehow it's now morphed into a discussion of the J frame and +P ammo, I must have missed the turn at the intersection
Hmmmm ????

Nevermind, I see where the turn was now..... :(

Seems to me that a 4 inch barrel model 12 is neither fish or fowl. It's not a concealable carry gun nor a working duty gun. I believe that there are many better options.

You need two things to conceal a decent handgun,

1, a good leathersmith.
2, a good tailor.

Even when I used factory leather, Bianchi or Safariland, I always had the belt loops on my trousers moved to accommodate the holster.

When I wore suits, my tailor was most willing to help me carry discretely.

I've read it myself in an older owners manual.

Yes, I know the current, modern chart says nothing about that. I can't help that. Maybe Smith changed their minds about the +P ratings, I don't know.

I'll see if I can find it on some file I've saved many years ago.
