I worked at Wichita Arms back when they were making single shot bolt action pistols and break open single shot pistols. We did a lot of cool projects there. They are the ones that made the Power Custom PPC Wichita ribs for Ron Power, too.

I have one of these mounted on an electroless nickel plate 586. It also has a competition action job. It is set up for PPC and has the tall front sight that allows a neck hold at 50 yards.

Since I am an old school PPC shooter, I have Rogers grips mounted on mine. Not attractive but widely back then used for duty (I had a pair on my issued 686) and competition because they fit so many hands so well.

If one likes a muzzle heavy revolver this one has perfect balance. Between the weight forward bias and integral comp, .38 wadcutters feel like .22 rimfire.

It is my favorite S&W revolver.

I have a nice 5" 686 barrel with a Wichita comp shroud on it given to me by a friend. Not much experience with comps shooting PPC. Like Sandbagger said they are against the rules. Would a 148 W/C at 700 FPS or a 158 SWC at 850 even make enough pressure to make a comp useful. Im thinking of putting it on an old 586 that I use for hunting. My usual there is Norma 158 at 1500+ or Winchester 180 Black Talon so the comp might help there. If I get it put together with a Dawson F/O I will post some photos. It is a nice setup.
