1. Lifetime Service Policy
We will repair any defect in material or workmanship without charge to the original purchaser for as long as you own the handgun.

Some forget that most manufacturers have a similar policy.

That isn't an unconditional, no questions asked policy. Defect is the key word.

I wouldn't want to burst anybodies bubble but threads pop up like this for all manufacturers.

I've had two firearms from manufacturers with functional issues. I fixed them both myself for a few bucks. No biggie.

The one firearm I did send back was a S&W revolver with a minor cosmetic problem. They fixed that and refinished the entire gun, with a turn around of a few weeks. They definitely give people the benefit of the doubt.

It used to be on the site.

And I brought mine to the s&w store where they told me and the guard at the guard shack when I completed the drop off.

Also I was going to send a 39-2 in for some work and the rep via email told me the same thing... he said they had magazines they could use.

Rule was unloaded and no magazines.......

I understand Donnieg3212. If this would have happpened to me I would be pissed too.

And Strange things do happen and sometimes for no rhyme or reason. And anybody that has been around firearms for many, many years and shot thousands and thousands of rounds has seen strange things happen.

I've only had a couple of times I've had to deal with the S&W service or parts dept. but each time they have been nice & helpful.
But, like the old true & false questions on a test, anything that states ALL the Time is probably Not true.

ps, the 3rd M&P I purchased was a M&P Pro 9mm 5". the inside of the barrel looked like they carved it with an axe. And the trigger pull was horrible. S&W replaced the barrel & I worked on the trigger.
Seems to be OK now.. Strange things happen..

Just wanted to update my experience on s&w service.

100% perfect.

They tested and replaced my barrel due to poor groupings, replaced my slide stop to the new version, and did some trigger work.

Haven't had a chance to go to the range yet, but the trigger... I love it. Perfect. The slide isn't dropping on mag insertion anymore either.

Had same problem with CS and my M&P 40. Sent back (9/16/13) in for repair: Extractor not working all the time, shooting low, mag required a hard slap to seat. Anyway sent gun with magazine. Received the gun back today (1014/13) in a box, with a note saying call us if you have any questions. No statement on what was done/found/?? AND NO MAGAZINE, frame pin in front of takedown lever was also way out.. Anyway call CS and waited for an hour on hold, got a rep and explained what happen, gave him the serial number: he looked it up said barrel and extractor replaced. That's it. What about my magazine, well someone checks the guns in and it said no magazine was with the gun, so I'll check with the repair guys. Anything else? Well so much for S&W the best support around. I've had better service with Taurus and Ruger. No more S&W - guess that's why Ruger is taking over. Too bad.

A couple thoughts. I've been told not to return magazines with a pistol returned for warranty inspection, unless it was suspected the magazine(s) might be defective. That way there's no magazine to get lost in the repair dept.

Also, if you're talking about the coil pin in the frame immediately in front of the takedown lever, and that it's sticking out a little on the left side of the frame, that's normal. The coil pin ought to protrude far enough out the left side so it acts as a "stop" for the takedown lever when it's rotated forward. This helps prevent any frame damage by the steel lever encountering the frame during field-stripping. The left end of the pin ought to be about even with the wider (lower) part of the frame bevel at that spot, so the takedown lever, when rotated for disassembly, can't slip over & by the end of the pin and hit against the frame.

Unfortunately, it's seems to sometimes be a bit hit & miss whether specific info listed on the repair slip returned with a gun repaired under warranty.

I understand that manufacturing processes develope a lemon from time to time. I can only give you my experience, I am a new pistol shooter. A buddy introduced me to ipsc and a few months later I bought an m&p in .40, the price was right for a new gun. Shot for a while, ended up putting the apex fss trigger kit in. Regardless, I've been shooting standard/major for the season, first month was factory ammo, since then all hand loads with a mixture of 90% major loads (180gr. Barry's with tite group approx 1000fps(I know it's hot for ipsc), and a 10% mixture of 155 gr cast lead minor loads way too fast and hot (still tite group) and 200 gr minors (which, by the way cycled fine but one ended up with a hot shell or two landing betwixt face and eye protection). Regardless, even after an experiment in poor cleaning habits, and an average of 300+ rounds down range per session ( at first three to four sessions a week, but now barely one.) the gun has managed about seven thousand rounds (conservatively, I figure it's more like eleven K) without a malfunction not caused by operator or ammunition(also my fault) I only post this to show that there is a possibility to use a firearm more in a few months than some will use the same gun in its lifetime, but the experience is completely different. I am Canadian, and pistol ownership is a pain in the ***, but for sport, is a lot of fun, and couldn't be happier with the m&p, unless of course it came with a full set of replacement springs and a longer (front to back) back strap.
I guess, what I'm saying is, I've beat this gun to **** and have modified it, and I haven't used the warranty, of course by putting in aftermarket parts I've probably voided my warranty, but I'm unconcerned. S&W does not have a good rep for earlier autos, but the m&p is a solid gun.

I recently sent my Smith & Wesson M&P 40 back to S&W for Lifetime Warranty service. The mag catch and trigger group had froze do to internal heating from discharging ammo out of my gun. I had received a phone call from a Joe N. in their customer service dept in repairs telling me there was nothing they could do,they wouldnt fix the gun, wouldnt replace the internals and told me someone probably heated this gun to do this. But offered me another gun at a discounted price. If this had been another company like taurus,hi-point,jiminez,remington, ruger, they would've fixed the problem. I have already paid 500.00 for one,what makes me what to spend another 280.00 for more problems. As far as i am concerned and from what i was told when i bought the gun "Smith & Wesson was only know for their revolvers,i dont know about their semi-autos." Well i found out they are junk and the lifetime warranty that comes with them is junk also. They will fight with you like a child like this fellow fought with me. A poor excuse for a Warranty, a poor excuse of Manufacturing,and poor customer service. All buyers looking to buy one of these pistols beware this may happen to you as it happened to me.

I guess you should buy a qualty gun like,

Taurus, Hi-point, Jiminez, Remington, Ruger, and maybe throw Davis in the mix.

Looks like ya'll chased him off. Bad boy!! I to would take the deal on a new pistol for 280 bucks then if he still wanted to sell it he would have something to recoup some of his cost and sell a new unfired by him handgun . As it is he's has lost the total investment.

Say again? Smith has an excellent reputation for their autos...what internet "source" did you read that from? I have a fair number of 'em and they're all excellent. Yes, I'm a Smith fanboy but I wouldn't be if their stuff wasn't any good.

And I agree the M&P's are solid as well...have a couple of those, too.
