I recently purchase a S&W Model 29-1 on Gunbroker. The seller had an 18 word description and 10 pictures of the firearm. The pictures looked like the gun was in 90s+ condition and came in a walnut presentation case with tools. One picture showed what looked like a white label on the case but no other pictures of other sides. I purchased the gun and received it only to discover a 3 digit number electro-penciled deeply on the bottom of the trigger guard. The case had stickers, masking tape, strapping tape and black permanent marker on the outside. Seller made no mention of this in the description or the pictures. Gun was shipped inside the case damaging the clamshell inserts. After 2 attempts to contact the seller by email with no reply I left F feedback and am posting this to make other potential buyers aware of this seller. The gun came from Gun Repair Center in Jacksonville Forida. Attached are pictures of the gun so you can draw your own conclusions.

Interesting. Gunbroker says there is no such seller, and you're gun does not show in the completed search.

As Bald1 says, price paid would be a factor. That "engraving" on the trigger guard would be a deal killer for me unless the gun was about $1500. Is the serial number S228093 as is written on the box? If so, that's one not on the known 29-1 list. . .at least on the version of the list I have.

SUGGESTION-
That seller currently has several other old S&Ws listed that have a similar mark, and they mention it in the description AND show a pic.
My guess is the lister just got careless and missed it.
I would call and ask for the owner or manager and explain the situation. He can pull up the ad and see that they missed it. Have the auction number handy when you call.
You are justified in asking for a full refund, but they'll probably leave you hanging on return shipping.

Another of his Closed auctions with mark disclosed:
Just a moment...

I've Lived in Jacksonville for many years Never even heard of them before & I am familiar with quite a few Firearms Places Jacksonville is a Big City Though I am thinking they must be fairly New,Raw Deal the way they did you.

I have a couple pre model 29, but good lord I can't find a 29 - 1 to save my life. They all seem to have a problem.

If you zoom in on the trigger guard on the picture with it in the box you can see part of the electro marking on trigger guard. But, buyer should not have to go to that length

Ya, it would buff out, right along with every bit of blue on the bottom of trigger guard.

People who use those electro engravers on the exterior surfaces of guns need to have a number tattooed on their forehead

That does stink. There is a couple of kinds of tape, the white sticker, and damage to the interior of the mahogany presentation case visible in the pictures from the seller, but no mention of it. I would prefer the seller to disclose that kind of information on an item of this value. The black marker can probably be sanded off with a refinish of the outside of the case. I don't know the values for 29-1's well enough to know what kind of deal you got.
