Picked up a pristine S&W Model 31-1 at a great price. Now what the hell am I going to do with it?

Any thoughts on this beautiful gun? As nice as it is, I'm thinking she could find a home where she'd be better appreciated.

I used to have one just like that when I was in college. I loved it! I would love to have another. So if it doesn't ring your chimes, put it up for sale in the marketplace and make a few bucks.

If you are wanting the same thing with a two inch barrel, I have an unfired, boxed one I'd trade.

Looks pretty much like the 30-1 I got for my niece, but it's nicer. If I owned it I would probably put it into the range rotation with my other 32s, but I just love shooting 32s!

I have one I bought from another Forum member last year. They are a blast to shoot and I know mine is very accurate. The ammo is not hard to find, but you have to look. Now I just need a M30-1 to match.

I now have 3 Pre model 30's or 32 Hand Ejectors, post war. I shoot two of them, but my little 2" transition is unfired and will stay that way. My recommendation is to "shoot it", they are so much fun and just inherently accurate.

.32 H&R

If its a J-Frame you can have it pushed out to .32 H&R and have a very accurate revolver with a little more punch. Bullet doesn't have as far to go to make it to the forcing cone. Did this to my 2" 31-1 and its a fine shooter. Keep your loads around 38 pressure and its a pleasure to shoot w/ the benefit of an extra round.
If its built on the J-Frame send me a PM and lets work out a deal Ill take it if the price is right.

maybe a trade?????

I know what I'd do with it. Shoot the hell out of it, lol.

Those are great little guns, I'm kind of thinking of buying a similar one myself.

32 ammo is obtainable (I reload so ammo isn't an issue) and the recoil is very mild.

I inherited an almost brand new 30-1 4 in barrel. It's the J Fame model and they are really sweet shooting guns. Ammo is not hard to find on the internet, but locally is almost impossible.

I am thinking trade for a 4" .357 Magnum revolver.

I was thinking the same about my 30-1 4inch barrel but my wife talked me into keeping it a while to be sure if I want to sell. I sold my Dad's like new Detective Special for $750 and bought 2 guns with the money. I have regretted it since.

I can understand that regret. I could never part with my Dad's Detective Specials!

My problem was I got my CPL and needed a carry gun. The Detective Special was like brand new and I just couldn't bring myself to putting wear marks on a gun in that shape. In hind sight, I should have waited a few months until I got the money together to purchase my 442 and kept the Colt. Just getting my CPL though, I wanted to be able to carry a gun right then and there. All I could think of was having the carry permit, getting in a situation where I needed a gun on me, but having left the Colt in the safe to protect it from wear.
