Smith Wesson Model 60 Square Butt

Does anyone make a RB to SB factory looking slab?
Yes. Look for J Frame grips with "All Models" in the description on ebay. Maybe on GB also, not sure. They cover all or at least the lower part of the grip frame, similar to the factory Combat and Target grips in my pics. There are some really nice Walnut grips like that, made in Turkey. There are also Karl Nill Grips, at a much higher price. Altamont makes some nice laminated wood J-Frame grips for RB, but most do not look like factory grips.

Me too! Where are the grips?

I am fortunate enough to have a 3" version myself. Purchased it used at a gun shop in the Metro Detroit area about 9yrs ago. Didn't really know what I was getting when I got it, other than it was a S&W and it felt great. I had no idea it was a special release and not necessarily in a common configuration. It came with the aforementioned, almost obligatory, Pachmayr "Gripper" rubber grip, which works pretty great, and has plenty of room for a speed loader and smooth ejections. But I'm 6'6" and have large hands, and have been looking for an alternative grip, only to be met with a great deal of frustration. There just aren't a ton of grip options for a J-Frame Model 60 with a square butt. At least not that I have found.

Any idea what other grip options are out there? I have the Pachmayr Gripper. I also ordered a Pachmayr Compac earlier today, which seems to be the only other rubber option I can find. Most things are for round butt J-Frames. I purchased an Alta Mont years ago that looks lovely, and fits pretty well in the hand . . . if not a little small for my tastes. It is designed for a square butt. However, the left side of the grip is too wide for speedloader use, and it actually blocks ejection of the shell closest to the grip. Probably could shave it down, if I was comfortable doing that, but either way I like the girthier Pachmayr grip better anyway. I do like the look of that beefier wood grip that maybe came with the gun originally shown in some of the pics here.

Are there just not great options out there? Particularly for a rubber grip?

Thanks

Update: I did find these grips earlier this evening from Midway USA. Gonna try them all just for kicks. I like what appears to be an OEM S&W. I would probably never carry with that narrow grip, but I'll use it once in a while just for kicks.

Interesting. Let's try again:

If it doesn't work again, just go to Midway USA's website and search for "J Frame Square Butt Grips."

I already have the Gripper, and have ordered one of each of the wood ones to try, except for the accent stripe model, because that was backordered. Now all the Hogue wood ones are backordered. I also ordered a Pachmayr Compac and a Pachmayr Presenter from Amazon to try. I saw elsewhere that someone had success with a Presenter on their JFrame Square Butt. I don't really care about concealability. I'm gigantic. I can conceal a full size 1911 if need be. I'm more concerned about a full-size grip I feel confident in. I'll be sure to post pics.

I bought one new in 1984 as well and mine is a 2" like yours. I also purchased a 3" a few years back,no box. They are a super handling J frame. I carried my 2" for many years and shot hundreds of rounds through it,but it still looks like new.
