I picked these two cases up today at an estate sale. I am thinking they are S&W presentation cases they measure 11 3/4 X 8 3/4 X 3 inches. My 29-2 with a 4 inch barrel fits they have no inside parts just the bare wood boxes. If they are for a 4 inch Smith & Wesson N frame what would be the time frame on them thanks.

Nice cases but without the inserts they are really not good for much more than jewelry boxes. If you do a search using presentation boxes I'm sure many threads will surface.

Not sure if Joe our resident presentation box repair person has extra inserts but he does do a super job relining the cases.

I'm not an authority on this. My 27-2 came new without the presentation case. My brother who was a cabinet builder and master wood worker made me a walnut case. He made partitions and lined it with velvet. If you decide to part with them I'd certainly be interested.

Cases

Sir, you have the standard Mahogany presentation case for the 3 1/2" and 4" N frame revolvers. These cases were shipped with the N frame guns from 1960-1983. the only difference in any of the cases is the top edge! As time went on this edge became more rounded! From experience in handling many cases I would guess your cases were from about the mid 1970s thru the mid 1980s! About the only way to use these cases is to make a set of custom liners or cover two pieces of foam rubber with a cloth which will make the case usable for almost any gun that will fit in the box! Just my opinion!

Joe ... I just registered here, hoping to find you based on a recommendation I received on another site ... I have a presentation case from about 1974-75 for a 6" N-Frame (Model 29) that is complete, but the flocking is all but gone from the styrofoam insert. I've been told that you are THE MAN to redo this part. Can you contact me and provide more info ???

Presentation case DIY

Just picked up a 29-2, 6.5" with original case. The cloth interior of the case was missing. The foam for the cover was there, as was the Styrofoam insert for the base but it was all in pretty rocky shape.
Got a couple of yards of navy velvet from Michael's as well as a lo-temp glue gun. Practiced for about 10 minutes on cardboard and then just took my time. You can see the result below.
QED - quite easily done

I relined some boxes with blue fleece from a fabric store. Used spray tacky glue to attach the fabric to the liner and top foam.

Here's a presentation box which holds my NY-1 revolver. That's how they sent it to me. Around 1988 or 1989.
