Appears to be a 44 Double Action, 1st Model. If the cylinder is 1 7/16" long, it would be a 44 Russian and if 1 9/16" long it would be a 44 Winchester. There was also a 38-40 Winchester, so look in the chambers for a single line or a double line?? 8612 appears in both the 44 Russian and the 44 Winchester serial number range, so let us know about the rings in the chambers, the length of the cylinder, and the diameter of the bore at the muzzle?
